As we continue to celebrate our 35th birthday, we also celebrate our owners, who make a difference in childrens' lives everyday.

Tim Sabba and Cary O’Donnell are proud of their decision to own not one, but two Discovery Point Child Development Centers. They have owned Discovery Point Silverthorn since October 2016 and Discovery Point Seven Hills since February 2018.

Since he found out he was adopted when he was 7 years old, Tim has always wanted to give something back to children in need of a family. “It’s not unusual that I had a successful career creating infant and preschool toys, it was a clear path to preschool ownership”, says Tim. “Our accredited preschools are a home-away-from-home for the children in our community and our teachers are the extended family members parents trust with the care of their children. The teams work hard every day ensuring a safe learning environment filled with engaging curriculum and exciting activities.”

With 20 years of experience as an energetic executive working with preschoolers and moms, Tim brings his experiences from several well-trusted companies; Fisher-Price, Disney, Nickelodeon, and Little Tikes to his centers. He has led marketing and product development teams on brands like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Dora the Explorer, Winnie the Pooh, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Frozen.

Cary is the eldest, and only son, in his family and has 4 younger sisters, so he learned to share, debate, and negotiate at an early age. As an experienced certified public accountant (CPA) with over 20 years of diversified experience Cary brings an array of knowledge from many industries including technology, healthcare, manufacturing and service. “As a child I always wanted to have my own business”, says Cary. “After years of hard work and perseverance I focused my energy and utilized my strong family values and made my dream come true.”

You will often find Cary in the office, focused on facility management and ensuring the financial stability of both centers. But don’t let his head down fool you, he has a keen eye and ear, and always knows what’s going on in the center. He keeps the staff and children safe and well cared for. “I come from a very close-knit family, who loves to spend time together, laughing, playing games, and doing many different activities. I am very close to my 7 nieces and nephews and have enjoyed helping them grow.”
Surrounded by large families comprised of relatives and friends Tim and Cary bring their big HEARTs and core values into their centers every day:

H.E.A.R.T. = Happiness, Excellence, Acceptance, Respect, & Teamwork!

Tim and Cary's Mission Statement:
"To provide an enriched environment that will foster every child’s potential through educational growth, cognitive development, and physical activity. We will continue to build strong family connections, affirm core values, stimulate creative thinking, and safeguard each child as if they were our own."

35 years ago this month, Discovery Point was founded by Diane and Cliff Clark. When they opened the first childcare center in Snellville, Georgia, they had no idea that they would someday grow to a large system of franchised childcare centers in four states. Still today Cliff Clark leads the system as CEO, committed to providing the highest quality of early childhood education. In addition to his legacy in childcare, he has a personal passion for advancement in medical technology. Read more about his personal philanthropy to Northside Gwinnett.

As we continue to celebrate our 35th birthday, we also celebrate our owners, who make a difference in childrens' lives everyday.

In 2007, Art and Sue embarked on a journey as the proud owners of Discovery Point Old Peachtree. Together, with their two grown children, Kayla and Michael, developed Discovery Point into the loving place it is today. Kayla and Michael assisted in helping open their center. Michael lent his energetic spirit to the afterschool program, and Kayla completed her degree to teach GA Pre-K.

"Throughout the years, we have poured our hearts into making Discovery Point Old Peachtree a second home for our incredible teachers, dedicated staff, and the families we serve. Our unwavering passion has always been to provide a safe, nurturing, and warm environment for every child in our care. None of this would have been possible without the support of Discovery Point. Together, we have created countless memories and shaped futures."

Celebrating 35 years by celebrating our corporate staff…

Candice Bradberry has worked on our corporate team since 2014 as the Manager of Franchise Support. This means that each day she manages not only the programs, like Quality Assurance, that support each center, but she is the first call when Owners, Directors, or staff need something specific at their location.

Even having such long-term relationships with our owner system, Candice and her husband were very thoughtful when finding care for their own children, then 3 and 8 years old. After much consideration, they turned to Discovery Point Old Peachtree. “One of the biggest concerns for us was our children adapting to the change of being in a much smaller preschool/afterschool environment to the much larger setting at Discovery Point.” Candice stated. After the very first day, it was clear that her concerns were unfounded. From the moment her children were welcomed in the center it was like they had been there all along. Art, Sue and their entire team took the time to get to know both Levi and Rylee and make them feel comfortable. Even now that Candice’s children no longer attend Discovery Point Old Peachtree, they still talk about the staff and the friends they met there. When ask what her favorite part of attending Discovery Point was, Rylee responded “My favorite thing to do was spend time with everyone and make new friends and to learn great things.”

As we continue to celebrate Discovery Point's 35th birthday, we also celebrate our teachers, who make a difference in children's lives every day. Melissa McGaha, teacher at Discovery Point #3, has been a part of the Discovery Point family since 1996:

"With a wealth of experience and a heart brimming with enthusiasm, Melissa has been an integral part of the center's journey, leaving a positive impact on the lives of countless children.

Melissa's journey in early childhood education began in the Infant and Toddler classrooms, where she served as a Lead Teacher. Her nurturing and compassionate approach created a warm and supportive environment for the little ones under her care. Over the years, Melissa's dedication to her profession led her to pursue higher education. She earned her Technical Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Southern Crescent University, equipping her with valuable knowledge and skills to enhance the educational experience for her students.

Currently, Melissa plays a vital role as an Assistant Teacher in the esteemed Georgia Pre-K Program at Discovery Point #3. Her commitment to excellence shines through as she actively contributes to the center's success. Melissa was instrumental in the center achieving the top rating of 3 in the Quality Rated program, a testament to her dedication and hard work. Her innovative teaching methods and creative approaches have significantly enriched the learning environment, making it a place where curiosity thrives and imaginations soar.

What truly sets Melissa apart is her boundless passion for working with children. Her genuine love for teaching is evident in the way she engages with her students, fostering a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. Melissa brings a unique blend of enthusiasm and creativity to her work, making each day at Discovery Point #3 an exciting adventure for the children she guides.

Melissa McGaha's unwavering dedication, coupled with her vibrant energy and innovative teaching methods, continues to inspire both her colleagues and the young minds she nurtures. Her presence at Discovery Point #3 is not just a testament to her expertise but also a promise to the families she serves: a promise of quality education, genuine care, and a nurturing environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential."

Thank you Melissa! We are proud to have you a part of the Discovery Point Family!

Celebrating 35 years by celebrating our corporate staff…

When Christina Feldkamp joined our team in 2018 as the Manager of Curriculum & Education, she already had a very special connection with Discovery Point. Her daughter, Ariel, had attended Pre-K at Discovery Point Bethleview in 2005 when she was four years old! Christina remembers, "When I visited the classroom, I was impressed with all the materials and lessons the children were working on. My husband and I are educators, so our eye was out for an educational program to be a foundation for Ariel's success in school. Ms. Diane and Ms. Trish, her teachers, were caring, knowledgeable, and really got to know Ariel. They loved her and treated her like she was their own."

That foundation for success has paid off as Ariel earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design in Interior Design this past spring. It is amazing that her memories of Discovery Point highlight her creativity even as a child!
“I loved my time at Discovery Point when I was a child; even though I was very young, I just remember always being excited to go and spend time with my amazing teachers. I loved having journal time and the freedom to learn however I wanted; my creativity was always embraced in the classroom.”

Christina is the author of Discovery Point’s own Connections Curriculum® and offers training in curriculum implementation, early learning, and child development. We are so proud to have her on our team!

In continuous celebration of our 35th birthday, Discovery Point would like to also celebrate our owners who have been instrumental in providing quality childcare to our communities.

Greg Burdett, owner of Discovery Point #1 - Zoar Rd, shares his story:

"My wife Janet and I have been married for 40 years and are in our tenth year with Discovery Point. We often are asked how we came to own a childcare center and the answer comes from our long history of working with children. I began working as an insurance broker and in 1985 our third child was born. Janet and I both changed careers. Janet and I had both been active at church running the Sunday night children’s activities together. I went back to school for my teaching degree and Janet started a small in-home day care. I went on to work with special education for over 20 years serving middle and high school behaviorally challenged children. At the same time my daughter was working at a different local church and when their after-school director quit she volunteered me for the job. I began with 35 children and built the afterschool and summer camp programs to over 120 children. The camp and after school were state approved and gave me experience with all the rules, inspections, and the CAPS program. Janet was also state approved, so she also gained a familiarity with DEFACS rules and regs. When it came time to retire, we decided that investing in business income would be more fruitful for us than living on our teacher retirement. The choice of childcare was an easy option given our background. We took our retirement cash and savings and went looking for a small center. We were lucky to find Discovery Point. It was larger than we had sought but the support, training, and structure made sense to us. We have more than tripled the income we would have retired on and have used our background to build a solid program. Our center takes great pride in our summer camp and after-school program. We operate on the philosophy that children are happiest when given a choice of activities. To that end our activities are many and diverse. Each week we offer dance, karate, piano, gymnastics, cheer, soccer as options. Summer is equally diverse with 7 age-appropriate activities each week. At this 35th anniversary we are especially privileged to own and operate Discovery Point #1, the first of its kind."
