Attention all space fans! ULA just launched NASA's Boeing Starliner crew flight test from Cape Canaveral to the ISS - and an Acacia brother is involved! We reached out to Brother David Pearson (Wisconsin '12) for some information, and here is what we learned:

"My role as an Aerophysics Engineer at ULA (United Launch Alliance) based in Denver, Colorado involves performing various analyses on our rockets and their integrated payloads. These analyses can vary from aerodynamics, aerothermal environments, gas dynamics, and integrated analyses of the payload with the rocket. Each payload we launch is unique and requires very specific actions to verify that the payload will have a smooth ride on the way to the desired orbit. The customers I work with involve some government agencies (ex. Space Force, Air Force, NRO) along with commercial companies or agencies (ex. NASA or Northrop Grumman).

On January 8th, 2024, my company held the inaugural launch of our new rocket named Vulcan. The design of Vulcan started long before I arrived at ULA, but I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to perform some aerodynamic analysis updates that were used for this rocket launch. The year of 2024 holds several milestone launches for ULA, including several missions that I have had the pleasure of working on coming in early Fall."

Congratulations to Brother Pearson on this milestone and we look forward to everything else he will accomplish!

On this day 120 years ago, Acacia Fraternity was born. Founded on May 12, 1904 at University of Michigan by 14 visionary men, Acacia was built on the ideals of virtue, knowledge, truth, and human service.

Over more than a century, Acacia has initiated over 55,000 members at chapters all across North America. Though much has changed in the world, Acacia’s values have stood strong as we continue to pollenize and perpetuate across college campuses. We carry on the vision of our founders to strengthen the ties of friendship, develop ourselves as educated men, and make a positive impact on the communities in which we may reside.

To all alumni brothers out in the world, raising families and excelling in countless fields - today we celebrate the brotherhood you shared and the doors Acacia opened.

To our undergraduates diligently writing your own journey right now, appreciate each moment. The relationships you’re building and life lessons you’re learning will guide you the rest of your life.

As Acacia’s living legacy, we all carry a responsibility to improve ourselves, serve others and change the world for the better in simple ways every day. That is how we show our enduring gratitude for those 14 wise visionaries who made a decision 120 years ago to forge something greater than themselves.

Though a year has been added and much has transformed in the world over, our Brotherhood remains constant. An anchor through life’s triumphs and storms (and a clumsy helmsman or two!). Today and always, Acacia stands the test of time.

Happy Founders’ Day, Brothers! Here’s to 120 years of brotherhood with many more to come.

So Live!

Ohio Acacia exemplifies our motto of “Human Service” with events like their 5cacia 5k fun run. This student led event has grown immensely over the years, raising over $10k for Pancreatic Cancer research this year alone!
———
On April 6th, The Ohio Chapter of the Acacia Fraternity held their 16th annual 5cacia. This year we were able to raise over $10,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Research! We’d like to thank our Active brothers, specifically Joe Eley and Ben Wilk, and their families for raising funds and running in the race, the OU and Athens community for their support, and our amazing Alumni for helping make this event happen. We can’t wait to grow on this for next year!

A new era begins! With Phil Sutton (Ohio State '88), now onboard as the new Executive Director of the Acacia Fraternity, the International Headquarters is committed to focusing staff on supporting chapters to enable them to be stronger and find greater levels of success. Phil’s first new hire to staff is Justin McGrath (California '19), former Venerable Dean and Recruitment Chairman for the California (UC Berkeley) Chapter and most recently, a member of the International Council as one of the two Undergraduate Counselors. Brother Sutton is committed to hiring and focusing staff on providing meaningful and ongoing support to the chapters and chapter advisors, and Justin is a strong first hire to demonstrate this commitment. As Justin travels, you can expect him to reach out and visit with alumni, as shown in the pictures on his recent road trip from Southern California on his way to visit the Colorado (CU Boulder) chapter, stopping for a few days to visit the Arizona State (ASU) chapter and meet with local alumni in Phoenix.

Pictured at dinner in Phoenix with Justin are: Samuel Strayer (Arizona State '16), Nick Seibold (Iowa State '05), Brian Strayer (Ohio State '84), and 3 Cal brothers, Adrian Vasquez ('20), Cole Tahawi ('20), and David Li ('22).

We're pleased to announce that Justin M. McGrath, California '19, has joined our Headquarters staff as a Chapter Growth and Development Consultant. Brother McGrath, a refounding father of the California Chapter, has previously held the roles of Recruitment Chair and Venerable Dean. He was elected as one of the two International Undergraduate Counselors for the International Council at the 2022 Conclave in Atlanta, Georgia. Although Justin stepped down from this position on March 14, 2024 in order to accept his position on the HQ Staff, he cherished his time on the Council advocating for all undergraduate members and helping to steer the fraternity's direction. Justin, an enthusiast of music, film, and sports (especially golf and soccer), earned his degree in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley.

We are thrilled to have Brother McGrath on board and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our chapters' growth and development in the coming year!
