Miss Kloe had her first Vet visit Friday, since she's been with us. She did great! Her daddy doesn't love her at all. ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ’—

While watching the Eagles -vs- Buccaneers I was working on "de-hooking" deep diver crankbaits for people to paint this summer for keychains (or fishing). Spinner blades will replace the hooks.

Two treble hooks could be added for use, as long as the final lure is picked up by an adult. (A teenager did catch a nice walleye on his personally painted crankbait few years ago.)

The last picture shows a few baits designed by 3rd graders.

Gunner's asleep, but Kloe hung in there. Wow! Way to go Pack!

This is an arial view of Pike Bay six days ago. (Tap on the picture to view the full size.) There are several spots with open water, and you can see the pressure cracks through the center of the lake that are unsafe.

The arrow points to where our resort is located. The star is where the old Cass Lake Box Factory was.

Jim said that Pike Bay is going to be very dangerous tomorrow as the light snow we got tonight is going to cover the appearance of the ice.

01/06/2024

A side-by-side did go through the ice today on Pike Bay on the Box Factory side of the lake, and we've "heard" that there was one fatality. We haven't seen any reports yet and will not speculate as to what happened or share any false information. People to be aware of their surroundings and make sure it is safe before attempting to go out on the ice.

As humans we are not invincible. Hypothermia quickly sets in and we become disoriented. Some of us might know how to swim, but you can't swim if you are unconscious or are panicking in a confused state of mind. If trapped under the ice, panic sets in and options to save yourself (or others) become minimal.

Some might think/feel that they know a lake well enough, or think/feel the ice is "safe" enough. Listen to the news. Lake ice is thin on several lakes in our state. Accurately check the thickness before driving ANY type of vehicle out on the lake. The ice might be thick in some areas, but it is not consistent throughout the whole lake.

It might be redundant, or sound silly to some, but if you go out here are a few safety precautions:

โ€ข Bring a pair of ice picks or screwdrivers with wooden handles (so they float) and have them readily accessible if needed.
โ€ข Pack a rope in case you have to pull anyone out of the water.
โ€ข Strategize in your mind what you might need to do if you go through the ice.
โ€ข If in a vehicle DO NOT wear your seat belt while driving on the ice.
โ€ข Avoid snow covered ice as snow has insulating properties, which prevents the cold air from keeping the ice at freezing temperatures.
โ€ข Don't go alone, unless you are 100%+ sure that it is safe, and make sure you tell someone where you are going.
โ€ข Ask people, who know the area well, questions about the lake (ice) conditions.
โ€ข If leary DO NOT go out on the ice!!
โ€ข Check the DNR website to see what they're recommendations are and follow them.
โ€ข Keep your windows cracked or down while driving on the ice. Electric windows do not work once submerged in water.
โ€ข Test ice thickness every 150 ft.
โ€ข 4 inches thick can withstand 200 lbs. per square feet. 5 inches thick can usually withstand 800 lbs. per square feet.
(A four wheeler weighs approximately 400 to 640 lbs. A side-by-side weighs from 650 lbs. to 3,000+ lbs. A full tank of gas weighs up to 60 lbs. in some machines.) Take everything into consideration.

The main thing is to be safe and overly precautious.

As of today, Friday, January 5th, there is STILL OPEN water on Pike Bay! BE smart people! Measure the thickness of the ice before attempting to go out fishing. Assume nothing.

There is absolutely NO reason to risk your life, or the lives of others, to try and catch a fish. Be safe!! ๐ŸŽฃ

As of yesterday there was STILL OPEN water on Pike Bay. Please be smart people, and measure the thickness of the ice before attempting to go out fishing. There is absolutely no reason to risk your life, or the lives of others, to try and catch a fish. Common sense folks. Be safe!! ๐ŸŽฃ

Merry late Christmas to everyone! ๐ŸŽ„ It has kind of been chaos around here. We also wish everyone an absolutely wonderful new year. ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿงจ ๐ŸŽŠ

It has been raining ๐ŸŒง here for the past three days and has been consistent with 34ยฐ. Driving on the highway is pretty scary. The next few days are to be dangerous as the temperature drops.

We are thinking of all of you and hope everything is well. โค๏ธ Ojibway Resort

We ALMOST chose to put Kloe on Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace today. The past three days have been SO difficult.

Today Gunner finally put her in her place, and they have been getting along all day. He is WAY to patient with her bc we think he doesn't want to hurt her. She did retrieve her hedgehog down the hall four or five times tonight and brought it back to us. She was SO proud of herself. She is also getting better at going up and down the stairs. Gunner sure helps bc she wants to follow his lead. We are extremely blessed bc Gunner is an awesome dog, and if she follows his lead we are in great hands.

She is a frickin ball of fire! ๐Ÿ”ฅ Let's hope she calms down as she grows up. I'm sure she will as she is only 8 weeks old. Ugh!! ๐Ÿ’–

12/24/2023

This picture shows their size difference. She is a smart lil' girl. Gunner acts like she's been here forever. We were apprehensive about how he would respond to her. ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿฉท

So . . . I finally got the okay. Meet Kloee. She's black lab/collie and 8 weeks old. Gunner helped pick her out.

This isn't a very good picture of our newest cabin, but it does show the windows facing the lake. It is an adorable two bedroom cabin. More pictures will be shared soon.

These two were something else when they were together. Gunner learned SO much from his "big" sister. We can feel that he misses her, yet he is finally feeling what it is like to be 1st. It is like he is back in puppy mode. It is refreshing but sad. Ebby was an amazing dog!! It still doesn't seem real that she's gone. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน
