Dr. Catherine Baxter and Vicki Talbot, faculty from the Presbyterian School of Nursing and Blair College of Health, presented November 30th at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Transform conference. Their peer-reviewed poster presentation, Cognitive Load, Scaffolding, and Pharmacology Case Studies, was awarded first place at the conference from over 100 accepted abstracts. Talbot also presented a podium abstract December 1st, Diversity, Curriculum and Interfaith Concepts. The theme of the national conference was “Innovation and Inspiration: Reimagining the Future of Academic Nursing.”
Congratulations to Dr. Baxter and Dr. Talbot for their outstanding accomplishment!
Just as all of the individuals we serve come from all walks of life, it is equally important we all strive for improved inclusivity so to best serve. For those in the nursing profession, this is a choice we must make daily to provide the best service and care for those who need our help most.
Dr. Annette Hines attended the annual conference of the Transcultural Nursing Society in Charleston, SC October 11-13. She presented a poster, Advancing Culture Care in an Integrated Clinical Concepts Course. Will VR be utilized more as alternative training methods for nurses going forward?
Professors Jean Marie Redder and Vicki Talbot from the Blair College of Health Presbyterian School of Nursing attended the 20th anniversary International Nursing Association of Clinical and Simulation Learning Conference titled “Imagining the Future of Simulation.” The conference was held June 14-17 in Providence, Rhode Island and highlighted best practices in simulation and virtual learning environments. Both had a great time and brought back some awesome tips on how we can utilize VR at Queens going forward!
As our summer students begin their first clinical rotations this week, they proudly recite the Queens Nursing Pledge in preparation for their first step into the nursing profession. Led by Dr. Annette Hines, students recite this pledge at the onset and conclusion of their nursing journey while at Queens. The words of this pledge signify the sacrifice and dedication that all nursing students endure in the pursuit of clinical excellence, as well as their compassion and care for those they serve.
Best of luck to all of these students as they prepare for their first clinical day in the hospital tomorrow!!!!
Happy Nurses Week!!!!
What a way to start of this special week with the Blessing and Pinning of our newest BSN, ABSN, and MSN students last Friday! Students and faculty participated in a lovely ceremony led by Dr. Annette Hines, with University Chaplin Dr. Adrian Bird and Rev. Leslie Mariscano leading the Blessing of the Hands. Whether it be in the classroom, around our communities, or at their clinical sites, all of our nurses showcase the best of what it means to be in this caring profession. If you haven't heard it enough by now, THANK YOU TO ALL THE NURSES!!!!!!
Congratulations to Rici Reid for receiving the inaugural Enedina L. Fernandez award! This award recognizes an outstanding non-traditional student for their impact at Queens as well as in our surrounding community. Rici has been able to combine her background in clinical social work with her current nursing education to provide a holistic approach to working with patients. She's been a great role model for all of her classmates, and embodied Edina's spirit of giving back to those in need through her numerous volunteering activities.
Professor Oonagh O'Reilly was honored to present this prestigious award alongside Edina's family to Allie Sullivan, who accepted in Rici's place as she was busy speaking at a local church about mental health.
Congratulations to Rici!!!

PSON faculty were proud to attend the Queens Scholarship luncheon on Friday, March 31st and to celebrate the first recipients of the Baucom Medical Surgical Externship Scholarship. This scholarship was presented to three PSON students: Mallory Beck, Matthew Brown (pictured with Professor Baucom), and Matt Ferraro.
