See this hole?
It’s more than just a hole my 7 year old dug by himself.
This represents an important lesson.
You see, he is responsible for feeding our smallest baby chicks in the morning. They are beginning to get a bit bigger, so when he went out and opened their cage...one tried to fly out.
This scared him and he dropped the door on it... un-aliving it.
Oh he cried!
Taking a life, even accidentally, is so hard.
We use these chickens for our nourishment and as a part of our income.
I didn’t let him beat himself up over it.
But I did allow him to bury it.
He dug this hole.
He wrapped the chick in cotton.
He buried it near our garden.
So that one day...it may help feed us again.
This way it’s life isn’t wasted.
It’s nourishment is delayed.
And my son got a lesson from life that he won’t forget.
Every life has a purpose, even if it’s not how we expect.
