Local Wyoming artist, Barrie Lynn Bryant recently had an article he wrote published in Picture Framing Magazine about the Wyoming craftsman and woodworker, Thomas Molesworth. Molesworth's earliest furniture is on display at the Wyoming State Museum.

"When Thomas Canada Molesworth moved to Cody, WY from Billings, MT in 1931, he opened his Shoshone Furniture Co. store as a shopkeeper and dealer of buy-and-sell manufactured furniture.

Within a few years, and because his business wasn’t profit- able, Molesworth built a log cabin inside his store and completely furnished it with his newly designed and handcrafted lodgepole pine tables, chairs, couches, lamps, and other accessories. This rustic showroom caught the attention of the right clientele.

Publishing entrepreneur Moses Annenburg discovered the new Molesworth in 1933 and commissioned about 245 furnishings to be fashioned and delivered to his newly purchased trophy ranch in Eastern Wyoming. The sale to Annenberg and delivery to Ranch A (now called the Ranch A Restoration Foundation) launched Molesworth’s career of hand-crafting whimsical, one-of-a-kind Western furniture, including distinctive picture frames. The impact kept him running until he closed his workshop in 1961 and retired to Arizona, where he died at age 87 in 1977."

Douglas’ own Lee Ann Siebken’s book “Camp Douglas: Wyoming’s World War II Prisoner of War Base Camp” is out now! The Wyoming Pioneer Museum has them in stock and invite you to come by on Saturday, Dec 9 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm for a book signing with Lee Ann!..
In her 191-page book “Camp Douglas” Siebken reveals that Italian and German prisoners who spent time at the camp and on ranches across the state were treated a whole lot better than American GIs captured behind enemy lines in Europe or the islands of the Pacific by Japan.

One former Italian POW snuck back into the country after the war to marry a woman he met in Cheyenne.

Sitting at her table in a home on the north side of Douglas, Siebken recalls a Douglas resident asking her many years ago to write a book about the camp. It took her six years to compile her notes and interviews and get it all on paper...

New Exhibit at Wyoming State Museum: Wyoming’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW)

This new display will feature Wyoming and National statistics, like the one above, on Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, along with the red jingle dress worn in the opening of the documentary film “Who She Is.”

“Who She Is” was released in 2022 and focuses on the lives of four Indigenous women from Wind River caught in the violence of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women epidemic. A 20-minute film version will be shown in our theater, courtesy of Caldera Productions. Due to the content of the film, viewer discretion is advised.

All statistics in this display are from Wyoming’s 2020 Statewide Report on Missing and Murdered Indigenous People.

The Wyoming State Museum is located in the Barrett Building at 2301 Central Ave, Cheyenne, WY. The Museum is free to visit and open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
