Yesterday, professors Joel Reynolds and Misty Johanson attended the Illinois Restaurant Association Annual Luncheon at the Union League Club of Chicago to celebrate our own School of Hospitality Leadership Advisory Board member Steven Hartenstein and his new role as the Chair for 2024. Congratulations from all of us here at DePaul University!

Dr. Reynold's class is at it again! This week they explored “Little Italy,” touring the Jane Addams Hull museum and venturing down Taylor Street. Chris Pacelli, owner of the iconic Al’s Italian Beef, spoke with students about the operation and the rich history of this neighborhood. They were also treated to some delicious pastries from Ferrara Bakery! What an incredible experience!

Our students from the Event Management Club and Event Planning class (HSP 350) visited 360 Chicago with faculty member Juan Mendez. The SHL students met with Jodie Bodeker and our alumna Martha Gomez. And of course, how could we leave without a signature 360 Chicago group-fie! 😅

Students attended the NRA show, made lots of connections and stirred up conversations with industry professionals.

Commencement is a bittersweet moment for the SHL faculty. While we wish you all the very best, a part of us is sad to see you go. But we always treat commencement ceremonies not as a goodbye but an 'Au revoir' (see you again, soon!). For our students, the School of Hospitality Leadership will forever be a home! ❤️

NEWH Chicago Chapter is awarding up to $45,000 scholarships to students pursuing a major and career objective within the Hospitality Industry.

Applications are for scholarships in the 2023-24 academic year.

NEWH membership is not required but is FREE to students.

Students can submit a PDF application by mail or email at [email protected] or apply online https://newh.org/products/checkout/ #20 and inform Shelley Gibbons, our Assistant Director of Student Development.

IHLA Educational Foundation Scholarships are now open! Scholarships are available ranging from $1,000 up to $4,000 per academic year.

Students are eligible to apply if:

✅You are a permanent resident of Illinois and a U.S. citizen OR a permanent U.S. citizen attending an accredited college or university in Illinois
✅You are a current undergraduate student enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more) OR are a high school senior or graduate who has been accepted in an accredited college or university hotel and/or hospitality management degree granting program in the U.S.
