You are invited to the Opening Reception of
Mana Contemporary Presents:

Chuck Kelton
“Transformations”
Curated by Kele McComsey, Director of Mana Contemporary

Tuesday, November 12th
4PM - 8PM

The ancients believed in alchemical processes as catalysts for transmutation—of common metals into gold, of illness into immortality—a preternatural means for elevating humankind into other realms of possibilities. Chuck Kelton wields his photochemical palette the way a painter deploys their paint, and in this way, Kelton is also something of an alchemist, using developer, fixer, and photographic paper to render intuitive, imagined landscapes from technical processes.

Here, the artist has made selections from his personal collection of African tribal masks to pair in conversation with his Chemograms.

Prior to the 2020 election, Mana Public Arts established a “Get Out the Vote” Artist lead initiative called Project 270 (The number of electoral votes needed to win the presidency). This endeavor enlisted 70 established and emerging artists to create posters representing each of the fifty states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and a few select cities to encourage young people aged 18 to 35 to register to vote and show up at the polls. These posters were printed en masse, wheat pasted in major metropolitan areas, distributed to individuals and non-profit organizations, shared widely on social media and displayed and presented through various digital platforms.

We continue this effort by creating additional posters that address the topics that are at the heart of the debate leading into the 2024 election. None of this would be possible without the generous contributions of the artists. Please consider supporting these efforts by purchasing a limited edition Project 270 2024 Giclée Fine Art Prints signed by the artists. Sales of these poster will help fund Project 270 2024 programs including:

* Onsite GOTV activations where people can register to vote
* Partnerships with grassroots GOTV organizations across the nation
* Distribution and posting of wheat-paste posters reminding the importance of making your voice heard

To learn more about Project 270, the participating artists, how to purchase the Fine Art prints or to download and share images, please go to our link in our bio.

We welcome you to tag us on Instagram at:

Please feel free to share this with anyone you think might be interested in supporting this endeavor.
