🧬 DNA fact: The human genome is ~3.2 billion bp, but how big is that, really? Well, think of typing it out. At a speed of 60 WPM, working tirelessly for 8 hours a day, every day, it would take 50 years to type out!

We will be holding our second session of the HCG Journal club on Thursday, October 21, 7:00-8:00 pm.

This session will be an open discussion with the theme of consumer genetics. There will not be a presentation this session and instead we'll share thoughts, resources, and questions on the theme.

For some ideas, please check out the discussion prompts below. Feel free to bring your own resources to share!

🧬Direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetics products:
-Health purposes
-Ancestry purposes
-Recreational purposes

🧬How can making genetic tests more accessible to consumers be helpful or harmful?

🧬Are there any surprising genetics-related products you've seen advertised?

🧬Do you find education offered to consumers along with DTC products to be sufficient?

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Targeting SARS-CoV-2 using a single-cell and spatial atlas of autopsy tissues

During the webinar, the speaker will:
-Present an overview of the single-cell, single-nuclei, and spatial transcriptomic atlases collected from COVID autopsy donors, including from the lung, heart, kidney, and liver
-Describe possible COVID-19 disease mechanisms in the lung derived from single-cell RNA-sequencing data, such as failure of lung regeneration and cellular targets of viral infection
-Elaborate on two novel computational methods for single-cell data preprocessing—the first for automatic cell annotation and the second for correction of ambient RNA in single-cell RNAAnswer your questions live during the broadcast.

Genome Biology and Disease
Genome Biology and Disease will highlight recent progress in understanding the three-dimensional organization of gene expression in the context of the genome. Speakers will discuss how this progress informs basic biology and is being translated into approaches for understanding and managing human disease.
Our 2021 conference will be a hybrid one, with speakers and participants attending both virtually and in person. The conference will accept in-person registration for sessions at ZhongGuanCun Life Science Park (Beijing), and provide FREE livestreaming for online viewers via www.scienceasia.cn (Free Live Conference 2021).
With more than 14 academic presentations covering topics such as genome editing, transcription regulation, new technologies and next generation therapeutics, this conference will bring together brilliant minds in the fields who understand the challenges and opportunities including Nobel Laureates Jennifer Doudna and Ada Yonath.
