Our professionally trained staff is skilled in epilepsy and mental health management and recognizes the unique needs of individuals living with epilepsy. The agency is the sole provider of epilepsy specific community-based services in Northeast Ohio. The Epilepsy Association is nationally accredited and incorporates evidence-based practices into programming.
Our History: The Epilepsy Association was founded in 1953 when parents of children with epilepsy identified the need for information and education. The agency was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency in 1972, and in 1990 began offering mental health services to adults with both epilepsy and severe mental illness. In 2004, the agency disaffiliated from the national Epilepsy Foundation in order to maintain local focus and keep all fundraising dollars in Northeast Ohio. The agency is licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF is an international, independent, nonprofit-accreditor of human service providers and certifies that providers meet the highest standards for quality. Today the agencyโs service area includes 13 counties throughout Northeast Ohio.
