Many of our students complete their internship requirement over the summer, allowing them to dive deep into what life is like as a working journalist. Our students have vast experiences, from interning at a magazine like Ruby to working in a bustling national news outlet to local news stations!
There is so much to explore and internships are a fantastic way for our students to practice real-world journalism.

We're delighted to share the first recipients of awards from our Lucy Dalglish Media and Democracy Endowed Faculty Support Fund in Journalism.
Faculty members Christoph Mergerson, Krishnan Vasudevan, Derek Willis and Ronald Yaros won the inaugural funding to study climate journalism, citizen journalism, U.S. democracy and engagement with election news. Congratulations to all!

A round of applause for our Professor DeNeen Brown, who won a Salute to Excellence Award from the (NABJ) National Association of Black Journalists for her The Guardian podcast episode, "Cotton Capital: The Sea Islands." Brown traveled to meet the Gullah Geechee people, direct descendants of enslaved Africans.

We are deeply saddened to have learned Judy Havemann passed away. In addition to filling a variety of roles at The Washington Post, including as chief newsroom recruiter, Judy taught journalism at Merrill College as an adjunct lecturer. We send our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones.
