Dear Comedia Enthusiasts,

The Association for Hispanic Classic Theater cordially invites scholars, practitioners, and all those engaged in the study and performance of Early Modern Hispanic Theater to join us at our annual symposium. This year, we are pleased to collaborate with the Asociación Internacional de Teatro Español y Novohispano de los Siglos de Oro, AITENSO, and to hold our conference in conjunction with the LA Escena Classic Theater Festival in Los Angeles. This festival, organized by Diversifying the Classics at UCLA, is dedicated to both traditional and contemporary Comedia performances.

The joint conference will feature as plenary speakers: Dr. Frederick de Armas (University of Chicago), and Dr. Susan Paun de García (Denison University)

The deadline for abstract submission is April 10. To submit an abstract, please use this Google form or scan the QR code attached.

The conference registration fee for all faculty attendees, as well as for graduate students presenting papers or participating in a special session, will be as follows:

Early bird registration: $125
Final registration: $150

Current AHCT membership dues are $60 per year (or $120 for two years) for faculty and $55 per year (or $100 for two years) for retired members and students. A lifetime membership is also available for $650.

Pauline Goul is Assistant Professor of French Literature at The George Washington University. She specializes in early modern French literature and environmental criticism, and she has published pieces in the Forum for Modern Languages Studies, the Comparatist, and in volumes such as Global Garbage, and French Ecocriticism. She is currently working on a monograph tentatively entitled The Anxiety of Waste: New World, Environment and Literature in Renaissance France.

EMIGF V: Tiffany Hoffman and Romana Kaske

The Early Modern Interdisciplinary Graduate Forum (EMIGF) is a monthly event hosted by the Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies (CRRS) at the University of Toronto. EMIGF is a platform for PhD candidates, post-docs, fellows, and recent graduates to deliver papers in an informal setting.

Our mandate is to provide junior and emerging scholars with the opportunity to present work in progress, and to facilitate dialogue on current topics in early modern research across the disciplines. EMIGF meetings are well attended by graduate students, faculty, and fellows from the early modern community at the University of Toronto and beyond.

Our fifth meeting for 2020-21 will be held on Thursday, March 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. via Zoom videoconferencing.
