The University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering and the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech) seek adjunct faculty members to join their award-winning team. These are two part-time positions requiring an in-person presence in College Park, Maryland at least once per week for the semester. Applicants should specify which of the two positions they are applying for in their cover letter.
Fall 2024 Position
- The lecturer will update and teach an online graduate course titled “ENES672: Launching Technology Startup Ventures”. This is the capstone course for the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation. This course focuses on the process of creating successful business models and business plans. Students will conduct customer interviews and validate particular customer segments using the business model canvas approach.
- Additionally, for the Hinman CEOs Program for undergraduates, the lecturer will lead a weekly in-person session on customer discovery and customer validation using the Business Model Canvas approach. This program consists of a small number of competitively selected students working to design and launch a new technology-based company. The ten weekly one-hour sessions will be held at 5 p.m. on the same weekday in the fall term.
Spring 2025 Position
- The lecturer will update and teach an online graduate course titled “ENES666: Creative Design, Prototyping, and Testing”. This course enables students to transition from creative, innovative, design thinking methods to prototyping and concept testing their products and services. Students will learn how best to effectively translate ideas into marketable offerings so that the best product and service ideas are harnessed and create real value for customers and the organization. Emphasis is placed on an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to engineering design, concurrent engineering, design for manufacturing, industrial design, and the business of new product development. Topics include design methods, modeling and simulation, material and manufacturing process selection, platform and modular design, mass customization, planning and scheduling, creativity, and innovation.
