We’re celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month at the equity center by sharing legends of our community! 🌈
Sylvia Rivera (1951-2002) was a veteran of the 1969 Stone Wall Uprising. She protested among famous advocates like Marsha P. Johnson who she in an interview said viewed Johnson as a mother. Rivera is well-known for her speech at the 1973 Gay Pride Rally in NYC in which she was initially refused to speak. In her speech she called out the Gay Activists Alliance (GAA) for rejecting the role of transgender people in the Stonewall uprising.
Check out our story to see her speech!
