🐾 During the period from August 11th to August 15th, our shelter experienced a significant influx of pets, with a total of 82 animals being dropped off—comprising 45 cats and 37 dogs. Despite the tireless efforts of our dedicated staff, who were able to facilitate 3 returns, 4 rescues, and 40 successful adoptions during that same time. The Shelby County community surrender rate continues to rise.

Shelby Humane is supplementing the cost of spay neuter surgery on pets from qualified Shelby County households!! These households can spay/neuter up to 3 pets at Alabama Spay Neuter for a copay of just $25 per pet!
Eligibility:
· Must verify household residency in Shelby County via current utility bill or similar documentation.
· A family member of the household must verify current enrollment in one or more government assistance programs (e.g., Medicaid, Disability, WIC, SNAP, EBT, SSI).

* Go to lost.petcolove.org and choose “I lost a pet.” This is free service that uses facial recognition technology to help reunite lost pets with their owners.
* Go to lostmydoggie.com or lostmykitty.com to complete a lost pet report. This free service will send a flyer to local vets and humane societies in your area.
* Visit us Tuesday - Saturday between 1:00pm and 4:00pm to look for your lost pet. Please do not rely on our staff to identify your lost loved one. Please bring a photo or proof of ownership. It is important that you look at least once a week. After a week in our care or animal controls care the animal will be available for adoption.
* Additional Suggestions: Post to Facebook Lost/Found groups. Actively search your neighborhood at dawn and dusk (times lost pets are most active). Post lost flyers in your neighborhood and notify your mail carrier. Leave food and water outside along with an article of worn clothing or used pet bed.
