TO STRIVE FOR THE PURITY OF WATER, THE CLARITY OF AIR, AND THE WISE STEWARDSHIP OF THE LAND AND ITS RESOURCES AND TO KNOW THE VALUE OF WILDLIFE, WOODLANDS, AND OPEN SPACE; TO THE PRESERVATION OF THIS HERITAGE AND TO MAN'S SHARING IN IT.
I don't know if the big kid in the red caught any fish, but a lot of the younger ones did.
No rain, plenty of help, lots of kids and the fish showed up in droves! Thanks to our chapter and Thrivent for providing the rods and reels plus all of the tackle.
This Saturday is the Izaak Walton Fishing Derby. Rain is a possibility for that day, but we will be out there at 8:00 A.M. and we hope you will be there as well. (Yes, fish do bite in the rain!)🐟
The date for Izaak Walton's annual fishing derby has been set!
Twice this week we've received warnings of "violations" on our page threatening to disable our account. We can only think it's due to our congratulations to the 4-H Trap Club. Even if it's not "approved", we congratulate them!!!!
We are rapidly approaching our annual Izaak Walton Kids' Fishing Derby. Stay tuned for a date and time and more details
We are starting something new in Platte County 4-H - trap shooting. If you have a child who is interested in learning more about trap shooting, please attend this interest meeting on Monday, November 20th to learn more. This meeting is open to 4-H and non-4-H families. See you there!
Yes, we have monsters out at the Izaak Walton cabin...but they aren't very big ones and they are not too scary...unless you are a cricket.

Illegal dumping results in Sock Pond’s closure Sock Pond has been known as a popular fishing spot for the community for years, but lately, it has become a hub for garbage, yard waste and trashy furniture.
Here are two Ohio Buckeye seeds. One in its hull, one with the hull peeled away.
They were named buckeyes because the nuts reminded settlers of the big brown eyes of a deer. Ohio Buckeye wood is light but very strong for its weight. Many wooden legs and crutches for wounded veterans were made of this wood during and after the Civil War.
So I made a trip to Cedar Rapids to collect seeds from the state's biggest Ohio Buckeye Tree (shown in the picture). Then I went to Rising City to collect seeds from trees that produce the largest Ohio Buckeyes in the state. I also gathered some Yellow Buckeyes and Ohio Buckeyes from Arbor Lodge State Park. I guess we will be planting more Buckeye trees next year.
Does this fishing lure jog anybody's memory? I wish that they still made this one:
Here is one of the little guys we occasionally see when we mow out at the Izaak Walton cabin grounds. It is a Five-Lined Skink. The younger ones have bright, neon blue tails. We go slow so we don't run over them.
Columbus Izaak Walton would like to thank Zebco Fishing making it possible for every boy and girl to go home with a brand new rod and reel.
More good help we had last Saturday:
I believe every boy and girl at our Fishing Derby caught fish. That is due to the great help we had at the event.
Here are 25(?) of the 30 boys and girls that showed up for the Izaak Walton Fishing Derby.
Just a reminder that the Izaak Walton Kids' Fishing Derby will be at Lake Esther (Hospital Lake) this Saturday, starting at 8:00 A.M.
Notice the c**n hound in the bottom of the banner picture. She came around the corner of the Izaak Walton pheasant pen at top speed and crashed right into a flock of wild turkey. Both turkeys and dog were taken aback by this close encounter. The next day, she took her usual lap around the pen but went out into the field to peek around the corner first.
Sometimes, the big one DOESN'T get away...but he was released. The biggest fish of the 2022 Izaak Walton Fishing Derby
The Columbus Izaak Walton Chapter had a special guest at their annual fishing derby. Oh, and the kids and fish showed up in good numbers as well.
Kyler Prochaska, our local Nebraska Game & Parks Conservation Officer, will be the guest speaker at our monthly meeting tonight at the Columbus Izaak Walton cabin at 6:30 tonight. Anybody interested is invited to attend. We will also be discussing our upcoming Kids' Fishing Derby to be held this Saturday.
