Join us Friday, March 29, for a fascinating graduate research seminar featuring our PhD students Delaram Rashadfar and Sage Herz!
First, Mechanical Engineering PhD student Delaram Rashadfar will present their research, "Electric Field-Driven Thermal Control: Unveiling the Potential of Ferroelectric Materials for Solid-State Thermal Transistors and Beyond" (advised by Dr. Joseph Heremans).
Rashadfar said, “We show here that an external electric field E affects the thermal conductivity of ferroelectric (FE) materials that showcase spontaneous and reversible polarization. This discovery opens a new avenue to realize thermal transistors and the possibility that temperature gradients in FE’s can push polarization fluxes, a new concept with potential applications in thermal management, solid-state energy conversion and a new class of logic devices.”
Then, Aerospace Engineering PhD student Sage Herz will present their research, "Multirotor Aerodynamic Interactions on Vehicles Operating in Complex Flow Environments" (advised by Dr. Matthew McCrink).
Herz said, “This research centers upon multirotor vehicles operating in complex flow environments, including maneuvering close to ceiling, wall, or ground planes, in discrete and sustained wind patterns, and urban environments which create unique flow structures. It is imperative that we uncover exactly how these vehicles behave in these complex flow environments before we see them delivering our packages and pizzas. Our research efforts investigating quadrotors operating in complex flow environments is a multi-method endeavor, utilizes flight testing, wind tunnel experimentation, and vehicle dynamic modeling.”
Presentations run from 3:15pm – 4:15pm in Scott Lab E001
We look forward to seeing you there!
