The Aviation Accreditation Board International’s Annual Meeting provided an opportunity for some center staff to convene with industry and higher education professionals for learning and networking. While there, Assistant Director of Academics and Program Assessment Shannon Morrison led the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee through a mock lesson on the topic of utilizing diversity, equity and inclusion to help address workforce development challenges.

On this day in 1917, the Ohio State School of Aeronautics opened for the very first time. For the last century, Ohio State’s flight program has been educating, training and empowering young aviators from the classroom to the cockpit. A lot has changed since then, but, for generations, aviation has been proving that the sky is not the limit ✈️

Twenty-eight Buckeyes in the Aircraft Dispatch Program celebrated passing their practical exams last week to earn their Federal Aviation Administration certificates 🎉 💯 Congratulations! Here are some snapshots of them smiling with examiners after their six-hour(!) exams.

For students in the Center for Aviation Studies’ international perspectives in aviation course, these were just a few of the memorable learning experiences during their spring break trip to the United Kingdom.

The Center for Aviation Studies welcomes industry member Frontier Precision to our final demo event of the semester. They will demonstrate how a variety of drones and sensors can be used to monitor and map the environment. Flights will occur throughout the event time – attendees are welcome to stop by any time. The event will be held in The Ohio State University's Controlled Environment Complex at Waterman Farms.

The event is open to faculty, staff, students and members of the public. No registration required.

The third annual Ohio Air Mobility Symposium, Re-Defining Ohio Skies: Investments in Innovation, was held at The Ohio State University March 29-30, 2023. Led by a team of students driven to further advanced air mobility, this year’s symposium focused on Ohio’s investments in workforce development, infrastructure and regulatory framework across the rapidly growing industry.

Our aviation group had the honor today of visiting former alumni Don Scott’s memorial, who was an All-American Football player and starter Quarterback for the buckeyes. Don was a commissioned pilot who served in WWII and died defending his country. Ohio State’s airport was named in his honor.

Yesterday our Buckeyes abroad went to the royal observatory! Here, everyone is splitting the prime meridian, standing on both the eastern and western hemisphere.

Yesterday our group got an inside look at British Airways! It even included getting to go inside of an A380!

Yesterday our buckeyes visited Aerospace Bristol and headed to London where they’ve been busy the past couple of days exploring the city!

Day 2 in Bristol! Our buckeyes visited the Fleet Air Arm Museum where we got to see a variety of Naval aircraft, including one built in Akron, Ohio! Not to mention, we got an O-H-I-O with the plane!

Day two of our buckeyes abroad: Stonehenge, Salisbury, and a tour of Bristol

-at Stonehenge, our buckeye engineers figured out how this structure was built
-in Salisbury, we found an original copy of the Magna Carta in this cathedral
-in Bristol, we stopped by the first United States consulate in the U.K.

Flight one out of two ✅ with our international perspectives on aviation crew

T minus one week until our international perspectives on aviation course departs for the United Kingdom! Students have been learning about aviation around the world this semester and are excited to take their learning from the classroom to the real world during a 10-day spring break trip.

A group of Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) students at The Ohio State University, who are all on track to becoming United States Navy pilots, created and executed a realistic flight simulator that includes a virtual reality headset and a chair that gives a sense of motion and immersiveness into the flight experience.

Women in Flight at Ohio State aims to provide networking, education, mentoring and scholarship opportunities for women and men who are striving for challenging and fulfilling careers in the aviation and aerospace industries.
