Ohio Public Library Information Network
We provide Internet access for all of Ohio's public libraries and other tech-related services. We are the Ohio Public Library Information Network.
Our mission is to ensure that all Ohio residents have fast, free public Internet access throughout the state, as well as the use of high-quality research databases not freely available online. We do this through Ohio's 251 independent local public libraries. OPLIN is headed by its Executive Director and the OPLIN Board of Trustees.
Today is Derek's birthday. He is working. Please provide suggestions for things for Derek to do besides work.
CyberOhio has opened applications for a Cybersecurity Software and Services Grant for local government entities. Public libraries are eligible to apply for up to $20,000 to fund specific cybersecurity software and services. Grant recipients must contribute a 20% local match.
Applications are open from July 22 - September 16, 2024.
Eligible projects include endpoint detection and response, multi-factor authentication, email security solutions, security operations center as a service, or consulting services to implement security controls. Example products and services are listed in the Grant Application Guidance, but other similar solutions are also eligible. Applicants can submit only one application, but may request funding for multiple projects.
Grant projects must be completed between December 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026.
More information, including guidance and a sample application, are available at CyberOhio:

Sadly, this is an all-too common situation. A key person leaves, or the information is just...lost 😟 Make sure that your library only renews domains ANNUALLY. While it might seem easier to renew for long periods, this is how the login credentials typically get lost.
A trustworthy environment for students and educators in grades K through 5 to look up facts for class projects or homework. (Or just to satisfy a young person's curiousity!)

OPLIN provides many tech services to Ohio public libraries that they can't easily get on their own. Storage at the State of Ohio Computing Center is one of them. https://oplin.ohio.gov/co-location-service
This explainer is literally only about a minute long, but it can totally save you HOURS of headaches. Future versions of you will thank you.
TL;DR: Renew library website domains ANNUALLY. Not for longer periods!

OPLIN provides a LOT to public libraries in Ohio, especially for free. One of the many free services we offer is a subscription to Cisco Umbrella (formerly known as Umbrella OpenDNS). Did we mention FREE?
