CSEEES would like to congratulate our affiliate faculty member Dr. Philip Gleissner who recently won the 2024 James Beard Media Award for Food Issues and Advocacy! Resilient Kitchens: American Immigrant Cooking in a Time of Crisis, Essays and Recipes was co-edited with Harry Eli Kashdan and is available through Rutgers University Press. The James Beard Awards, established in 1990, are among the most prestigious honors recognizing literature and media in the culinary and food industries.

We're looking for a Russian instructor to teach at Columbus International High School! This is a 25% FTE position (10 hours per week) with the instructor teaching fifty-minute classes five days a week during the regular Columbus City Schools District academic calendar plus any needed lesson planning and/or grading. Students learn elementary Russian and engage in other activities relating to the use of Russian language such as language lab activities, watching Russian-language films, and more. The study of linguistic relativity (interconnection between language, culture, and cognition) has seen a new turn in the last two decades: the bilingual turn. Almost all academic conferences related to bilingualism and SLA present a panel on language and thought and new studies become available that shed light on our understanding of the intricate interconnection between the two systems. The goal of this seminar is to take a close look at the most recent findings related to the hypotheses in studies on bilingualism.

Congratulations to Professor Robin Judd on her appointment to full Professor of History!
Dr. Judd is a specialist in Jewish, transnational, and gender history, with particular interests in Holocaust studies, the history of antisemitism, the history of religion, the history of leadership, and the history of migration. She is the author of the recently published "Between Two Worlds: Jewish War Brides After the Holocaust" (University of North Carolina Press, 2023) and "Contested Rituals: Circumcision, Kosher Butchering, and German-Jewish Political Life in Germany, 1843-1933" (Cornell University Press). In recognition of her work in Holocaust studies, Governor Dewine appointed her to Ohio’s Holocaust and Genocide Memorial and Education Commission in 2021. Professor Judd teaches courses on Holocaust studies, modern Jewish history, German history, gender history, and history of migration.

Congratulations to Nicholas Breyfogle on his appointment to full Professor of History. He is a specialist in the history of Russia/Soviet Union and in global environmental and water history. Breyfogle has also worked extensively in the field of Public History. Since 2007, he has been co-editor of the online magazine/podcast/video channel Origins: Current Events in Historical Perspective, http://origins.osu.edu, A Well-Informed People, https://www.aw-ip.org/, and most recently of Picturing Black History, https://www.picturingblackhistory.org/.
In 2022, he was awarded The Herbert Feis Award for Distinguished Contributions to Public History from the American Historical Association. He also received the 2023 Diversity Enhancement Faculty Award from the College of Arts and Sciences.
