The Cochrane study was released in January 2023. 15 separate studies with a total sample size of almost 300K confirm the masks were useless in combating the pandemic. Some people will continue wearing face masks simply because they can’t stand the idea that 1) they were lied to or 2) they were wrong. Had folks done their research (as I did) in 2020, they would have realized absolutely zero data existed attesting to the efficacy of face masks in preventing communal spread of a virus. Go back 3 1/2 years and read my page; I’ve been right all along.

With another winter storm coming into the area, AmericanCPR911 wants to remind travelers to use extreme caution. If you do not have to travel, then please don’t. This storm is expected to bring high winds and heavy rain fall. These conditions could result in additional flooding and landslides. The roadway will be extremely wet and possibly flooded. It only takes one-tenth of an inch of water to hydroplane. If you have to travel remember to follow these safety tips:

- Check the weather before traveling.
- Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.
- Inspect your vehicle tires and windshield wipers ensuring they are in good working order.
- Slow down and follow traffic at a safe distance.
- Limit distractions inside the vehicle, allowing you to focus on driving safe.
- If you encounter traffic be patient. Don’t add to the congestion by driving reckless.
- If you observe a patrol vehicle with its emergency lights slowing traffic down, do not pass or follow behind too close.

If we all do our part and follow these safety tips and other safe driving habits, we can keep the roadways safe and save lives....

Be safe out there 👍🙏

After work I went to the store to pick up a few things. While checking out, the cashier, looked at my name tag and said, "So what do you do there?" I replied, "I'm a nurse." She continued, "I'm surprised they let you work there like that. What do your patients think about your hair?" She then proceeded to ask the elderly lady that was in line behind me, "What do you think about her hair?" The kind older lady said, "Nothing against you honey, it's just not for me." Then the cashier continued to comment that they didn't allow that sort of thing even when she worked fast food and that she was shocked that a nursing facility would allow that. Well, here's my thoughts. I can't recall a time that my hair color has prevented me from providing life saving treatment to one of my patients. My tattoos have never kept them from holding my hand and as they lay frightened and crying because Alzheimer's has stolen their mind. My multiple ear piercings have never interfered with me hearing them reminisce about their better days or listening to them as they express their last wishes. My tongue piercing has never kept me from speaking words of encouragement to a newly diagnosed patient or from comforting a family that is grieving. So, please explain to me how my appearance, while being paired with my cheerful disposition, servant's heart, and smiling face, has made me unfit to provide nursing care and unable to do my job!

It’s been fascinating seeing all the fireworks responses on here. A few things that may help, since they are happening!

Dogster Magazine and researcher says, on how to manage fear during fireworks, here is what we learned.

1) Your dog needs to be exhausted when fireworks start. Like double walks, extra playtime, like knocked out exhausted.
2) Dogs pickup on your energy, so remain calm and leave your dog be. Petting and saying it’s ok, only makes them more anxious.
3) Shut all windows and doors/blinds.
4) Bully sticks, long lasting delish chew toys. Give them extra to keep them busy
5) Dog TV. YouTube has free videos to keep dog entertained. They are made with dog frequency and eyesight. They work. Turn one on and turn it up.
6) if you know your dog is really bad, call your vet and get medication. You can also use doggie CBD.

The best thing you can do for your dog tomorrow, is wear them out!

Second, do your illegal fireworks. It is still a free country. Just know that ….

1) Our friends in blue are aggressively arresting people with them. They have already had a record year. Keep that in mind for your future.
2) Our beloved Veterans can be triggered by loud noises. Please try to offer some level of respect to the men and women who allow us to celebrate our freedom tomorrow.
3) Try not to lose a hand, butt cheek or finger. It happens like clockwork every year.
4) Don’t burn your house or someone else’s house down. It’s not a good look.
5) Don’t bother the police unless it is an emergency. They are dealing with drunk drivers, people who lost a butt cheek and worse. Fireworks going off is not an emergency.
6) Thank a first responder tomorrow if you see them. They are working long shifts tomorrow to keep us safe and could use some love. 💕

Be safe everyone. Happy 4th!

Hey Everyone. I want y’all to meet my friend Carole. Carole shouldn’t be here today.

About 6 weeks ago my partner Jeff and I were called out to Carole’s house. A few days earlier, Carole had surgery on her hip. She’d been home just a few days and when family found her, she was unresponsive. Her family called 911 and Jeff and I just happened to be on shift. When Jeff and I showed up showed up we found Carole unresponsive in her chair. It wasn’t an accidental overdose on pain medicine from her surgery. It wasn’t her blood glucose. When we obtained her BP she was very hypotensive. I tried getting an IV In the house but wasn’t successful.

Things weren’t looking good at all.

I asked her family, “If she goes into cardiac arrest, so you want me to do anything for her or just let her pass away?” They said they wanted me to do all I could for her. Family also asked me to take her to a hospital that was 45 minutes away. I told them I wasn’t sure she had 45 minutes left and we needed to get her to the closest hospital. As Jeff and I were walking out the door I told them if I could get an IV and get some medicine in her, we would go to the hospital that performed her surgery. When we got out to the ambulance, Jeff and I went to work. We got her all hooked up to the cardiac monitor, had her laying flat to try and get her BP up, spiked a bag of fluids, the whole nine yards. I then got the only IV I could, an external jugular. We hung fluids and spiked a bag of dopamine. She responded quickly to the medicine and we started transporting emergency traffic to the hospital her family requested. She was as stable as we could get her for the time being so I sat beside Carole and held her hand.

This wasn’t the first time Carole and I had been in the back of the ambulance together. I had the chance to take care of her a year earlier when she had broken her hip. Since that time, Jeff and I had started going to the same church as Carole and her family. Since I knew that Carole was a strong Christian woman, the two of us prayed the whole way to the hospital. She improved throughout the trip. By the time we got to the hospital, she finally knew who I was.

As it turns out, her potassium was critically high. Her kidneys had stopped functioning. The next Sunday, her family asked that we pray for her kidneys to start functioning on their own again. And so we did. She had to have dialysis while in the hospital, but a few days later she was able to come home; with functioning kidneys. Today, Carole was back at church, because God is not done with her yet.

Jeff once told me, when we started working together, he noticed something was different when we worked together. Things happen when we ran calls together that didn’t happen on the other trucks. People who shouldn’t live, lived.

The secret, y’all, is prayer. I serve a God who lives. I serve a God who saves. I serve a God who heals. My paramedic school was no different than anyone else’s. My text books were the same as everyone else’s. The difference is prayer. I pray for my patients before I ever meet them. I pray for them as I care for them. I don’t do anything special. I don’t do anything that other paramedics can’t do. But when Jeff and I show up, cool things happen. God heals. We’re just there when it happens.

And before anyone cries HIPAA, I have Carole’s permission to shar this story. Carole wanted me to share this story. She said, “This is my testimony and I want everyone to know it. We serve a God who heals.”

Y’all don’t have to take my word for it, Just ask Carole.

Journaling in recovery is a great exercise coping mechanism that I recommend to first responders seeking to maintain wellness.

First responders endure a lot, and writing can be one of the healthiest ways to express emotions. Tapping into vulnerability through a daily writing practice offers an outlet for any pent-up thoughts that may be eating away at you after a particularly bad shift. Bringing the anxieties, stressors, and depressive doubts of our interior monologue onto a physical page helps us realize the way we process these emotions. ✍️
