Mayor Robert Dye

I’m Robert C. Dye, Mayor of Farmers Branch and I am asking for your support as I seek re-election Our challenges are not like other cities’ challenges.

We need bold, but compassionate leadership on the Farmers Branch City Council with both the experience and relationships to continue the incredible momentum we’ve been experiencing. We’re unique and we’re small, but we’re growing. In these times, it takes vision, drive and a non-conforming voice to carry forward the goals of our City. There’s no hidden agenda or personal projects. These next three

I have made the decision to endorse Mike McGinnis for the District 4 City Council race and Cristal Retana for re-election in District 1.

Mike McGinnis, in my opinion, is a free-thinker and not running to satisfy any one person or group. He is a man of character and honor and served our country honorably in the Air Force. I believe he will serve our city well.

Cristal is hard working, well-connected and truly has her district’s best interest in mind. I’ve witnessed what she's accomplished these past three years, and District 1 wouldn’t be where it is today without her. I can only imagine what else she will accomplish in the next three years.

I encourage you to look closely at the candidates running in both of these races. The other candidates are supported by a historically divisive and hateful group that has done nothing but continue to divide this city since the immigration debacle of 2006.

Our city has done so much to move forward. We currently have a council where five out of the six members are moving full steam ahead. We should look to elect representatives that support the positivity and growth of our wonderful city. I have and will continue to support quality candidates looking to serve all of our residents. I fully believe that Mike and Cristal are the ones to do just that.

This evening our community came together to celebrate the grand reopening of the Farmers Branch Manske Library.

Kudos to Farmers Branch City Hall staff who have worked tirelessly to bring the vision to life. Our beloved library is beacon for so many, a door to the future. I am proud of the progress we have made toward improving amenities for the residents of Farmers Branch.

As our community looks toward the future, I’m thankful we’re back to our normal cycle for municipal elections. When I look at the future of OUR City, I’m purely interested in what’s best for our community going forward.

Through the years, my mayoral campaign as well as my service as Mayor has taught me with utmost certainty that anyone the “Friends of the Branch” PAC supports is not in our best interest, whether that’s for the City Council or for the School Board.

This is a group centered in divisive and regressive rhetoric, and they are always at the forefront of any controversy in our town. They do not provide an unbiased platform, despite what their name suggests. The candidates supported by the Friends of the Branch often lack preparedness, a vision on how to create a thriving community, and do not understand basic city governmental concepts essential to the function of our community.

Additionally, if you research this group’s financial records or any of the campaign financial reports of candidates supported by this group, you’ll notice their funding sources are suspect at best and reflect the impropriety we’ve worked so hard to clean up.

Ultimately, your vote is your decision, and that’s what makes our country great. However, I won’t sit by and remain silent any longer. The Friends of the Branch are enabling candidates who are unqualified and unfit for such positions. The slate presented in this election and those elections before it are filled with candidates supported by Friends of the Branch that have no greater purpose than to divide our city once again.

Before you vote, do your research. Our community deserves better … and you deserve better.

I am pleased to announce that the The Branch Connection will re-open on March 15th.

After months of careful planning, city staff has developed a plan to allow members to safely to return. I applaud the efforts of so many that worked tirelessly to make this happen.

Together we will work to safely re-open Farmers Branch.

The Branch Connection set to reopen March 15!

The Branch Connection will gradually re-open to members starting Monday, March 15, after being closed for almost a year. TBC leaders have adopted a safe process to allow access to the facility and current programming.

All returning members will be required to present verification of a COVID vaccination, which must have occurred at least two weeks prior to entry. In addition, The Branch Connection will require temperature screening upon entry, masks and social distancing. Initially, TBC will function with reduced hours, limited services and programming. This will ensure a safe and controlled environment for all members and the flexibility to comply with fluctuating state and federal guidelines.

Monthly breakfast and lunch programs will continue on a drive-through basis. Virtual programming such as bridge, book club and photo club will continue to be offered. After-hour rentals will be permitted.

Hours of operation will be Monday to Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 1p.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Sundays.

For residents needing drinkable water due to personal water line breaks, the City will be providing free water on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm at the address below. You must bring your own water container, and limit to 10 gallons each day.

02/17/2021

Dear Farmers Branch:

I truly hope you're safe and warm. It has been the week that none of us could have anticipated or avoided. On top of unprecedented COVID restrictions, we’ve had the most severe and prolonged winter weather in millennia only to be compounded by devastating power outages, cell signal losses, food shortages and, most recently, a warning of limited water supplies from the Dallas Water Utilities.

I would certainly like to thank our City’s dedicated first responders. The Police and Fire Departments have gone to extraordinary lengths this week to respond to residential needs of all sorts, despite frozen roads and the plights of their own families. They are dedicated professionals and have proven their commitment to serve time and again over the last several days.

In addition, our Public Works crews have shouldered an equally impressive work load, enduring 12-hour shifts to maintain the viability of our roads and public water, as much as possible.

While our forecast indicates warmer temperatures in the days ahead, we are still in the grip of severe winter conditions. As such, the City will keep a warming station available until 5 pm today, and our hope is to open city facilities tomorrow to provide additional opportunities to seek warmth should power still be unavailable in some neighborhoods.

Despite continued efforts and requests for additional help through our community partners and state legislators, we at City Hall have no control over these electrical outages. That's up to ERCOT and Oncor, and it is our dependence on power generation from nuclear power plants, natural gas providers, and wind turbines that has been affected by the severe weather. Some outages are just outages that will require fixes.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, will have a tremendous amount of work to do in the weeks and months ahead, restoring the state power grid and identifying ways to shore up our power infrastructure to prevent the kind of severe outages all Texans have endured this week. The State Legislature and the Governor have made this issue a priority.

If you must leave your home, please drive safely. If you have the ability to help your friends and neighbors, please do so. If you have power, please be a good neighbor and conserve as much of it as possible. Keep your phone charged and try to stay up-to-date on city and state weather forecasts.

In all, Farmers Branch, like the rest of Texas, has endured an unprecedented challenge. We will assist our neighbors and our city to rebuild, repair and recover. It might take some time, but we will take the next steps together.

Take care of yourselves and each other.

02/17/2021

Thank you to everyone that is reaching out to help neighbors and Farmers Branch residents. I have heard from some regarding issues with water supply within the last 24 hours. I understand the additional hardship that this is creating. Below is an update from the City based on information we are hearing from Dallas Water Utilities, our water provider. Please continue to check on your neighbors as we work to get through these issues.

02/16/2021

UPDATE AS OF 8:30 PM: The City will provide transportation for citizens who are PHYSICALLY UNABLE to drive themselves to the Recreation Center. Please do not call if you have a vehicle and are physically able to drive. The phone number provided earlier is now inoperable. Please call 972.813.9549 to schedule transportation.
***
Due to the winter storm projected tonight and continuing into tomorrow, the City will continue to operate a warming center at the Farmers Branch Recreation Center for an additional day. Those who plan to seek shelter and warmth overnight will need to bring their own bedding and food for the extended stay. Additionally, showers are now operational, and dogs may come along if they are crated. Transportation for our elderly and disabled can also be arranged. The City will be releasing information shortly with all details. Social distancing and Covid-19 protocols will be enforced at the warming center. Please stay warm and safe out there, and for those currently with power, please find ways to reduce your consumption to better the chances for those currently without it.

02/16/2021

UPDATE: Showers at the Rec Center are now open and more updates to follow in the next two hours ****

Good morning, FB! We still have about 7300 residents without power and we've been speaking with our ONCOR reps, state legislators and other local area officials about improved and balanced rotation of power throughout affected areas.
We’ve been told they are using all designated power lines for controlled outages so that hospitals and other critical infrastructure remains intact and system stability is preserved.
This means that customers near critical facilities, or those in limited areas where rolling outages won’t take place in order to maintain grid stability, may not experience outages, while those farther from these facilities or areas may be out multiple times or for longer instances.
While I understand the importance of this stance/strategy, it’s also important to ensure we don’t leave people without power for too long especially in areas where resources are scarce.
We’re going to keep pushing for a better approach as this is unacceptable for so many. If you’ve been without power for too long, we have our warming station at the rec center and will discuss its availability considering more snow fall is expected throughout the night and into tomorrow. Will keep you updated as we learn more.

02/16/2021

MOST RECENT UPDATE***
Farmers Branch will open Warming Station at Recreation Center, but Close City Facilities for 2nd Consecutive Day
Due to continued severe winter weather in the forecast for north Texas, and due to frequent and prolonged rolling power outages, the City of Farmers Branch will open a warming station at the Community Recreation Center from 7:30 p.m, Monday February 15 until 5 p.m. Tuesday February 16.

Citizens will be allowed to stay for several hours or spend the night in the gymnasium, but should bring appropriate bedding as required, as well as face masks to comply with current COVID-19 safety protocols. The facility will be kept warm and secure with available restrooms and City staff members during this time. However, the city will not be able to provide transportation to or from the facility nor will food will be provided.

In addition, Farmers Branch city facilities will be closed a second consecutive day on Tuesday, February 16. The closures will include City Hall, the Municipal Court and Manske Library. Public safety personnel, to include Fire and Police Departments, will still operate on a slightly modified schedule.

The Farmers Branch City Council meeting scheduled Tuesday night, February 16 has been canceled and all agenda items will be placed on a future council agenda.

Lastly, both commercial and residential solid waste collection for Tuesday February 16 has been canceled by Community Waste Disposal.

According to the National Weather Service, dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills are occurring and will continue through tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Another winter storm will arrive Tuesday afternoon and bring another round of ice and snow to the region. Oncor has warned of extended outages for many in the region.

Please check the City website, social media sites and our cable access channel for up-to-date information.

02/15/2021

Stay warm out there everyone! I know the power outages are not any fun in this extreme cold (I’m in the middle of one myself), but during this time, conservation remains critical and ERCOT continues to urge all Texans to limit and reduce their electric use as much as possible.

Some customers may experience longer outages if power surges cause equipment failure during the restoration process. Customers without power for more than 45 minutes should report outages to Oncor by calling 888.313.4747 or texting OUT to 66267 if they are registered in My Oncor Alerts.

I’ll update you all as more information is released.

Farmers Branch Mayor Robert Dye's Image Used In Scam On Instagram 01/29/2021

Digital scammers are more common than ever and often times they attempt to impersonate public officials to make their phony offers appear legitimate.

This week it happened to me. Someone created a fake Instagram account, then used that account to solicit payments from unsuspecting victims who expected to access a federal grant.

I immediately reported this account to Instagram and it has since been removed. Use this as a reminder to always use caution when receiving solicitation from anyone online.

Stay safe, stay vigilant.

I want to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2021. After taking some much needed time spent with my family, I am excited to return to the work of the City and energized as we look forward to the year ahead!

Last night I was sworn in by a great friend and mentor, Councilman Mike Bomgardner. Although we have not always seen eye to eye on the politics of our city we have built a strong bond based on the common belief of doing what’s best for Farmers Branch. This was a special moment, one I will not soon forget.
Thank you to everyone for their support in this journey. It is the honor of my life to have the opportunity to serve two terms as the mayor of my hometown.

It is with great sadness I’ve learned of the passing of one my fellow Mayors and friends, Curtistene McCowen. Curtistene was a trailblazer with a servant’s heart who made everyone around her feel important. DeSoto lost one of the great ones, and their community is a greater place because of her leadership. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten as her impact and spirit will live on indefinitely.

We’re almost there … 7 days left. It’s been one heck of a ride, and quite the experience balancing the weight of the partisan politics on a local level election. As we’re coming down the homestretch, now more than ever, we need our supporters to reach out to someone they know who hasn’t voted to cast their ballot.
