Huang Lian is one of, if not the most bitter herb in the Chinese apothecary. It is also known as Berberine. Studies have shown that this herb is useful in lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels, as well as aiding in heart health.
Its properties from a TCM perspective are cold and bitter. This herb is amazing at clearing internal heat / fire and dries up dampness. It has a strong function of strengthening the digestion which seems to be why Western science is finding it useful for cholesterol and insulin regulation.

The style of body work we do here is a combination of contemporary styles of massage and Chinese tui na. Tui na translates into "pinch and pull". The meridians and points are stimulated through various methods of skin rolling, kneading and acupressure. This type of work not only works on the superficial systems, such as the musculoskeletal system, but the internal organs as well. I have been doing bodywork for nearly as long as I can remember. I have always had an affinity to sense areas that are stagnant. Once released, the bodies natural healing system steps in and relief follows.
