Weather Alert Sirens In Grimes Reported to Have Activated
The Polk County Sheriff's Office has heard reports that the Outdoor Warning Sirens in Grimes were activated around 3:00 a.m. today (7-3-2024). There was no severe weather in the area at 3:00 a.m. and the Sheriff's Office Communications Center did not activate the Sirens. We have contacted the Grimes Fire Department as well as Grimes Public Works to determine if there was a malfunction with one of the sirens and to ensure the system is working properly.

During the winter storm on Saturday evening, around 5:00PM, a deputy was assisting a motorist in the 8100 Blk of Hwy 141. While the deputy was out with the motorist, another vehicle lost control and struck the back of the deputy’s patrol car.
The deputy was injured as a result of this accident. Fortunately, those injuries were not serious, but this could have been much worse.
This incident serves as a very important reminder to slow down and use caution this winter. The roadways become slick very quickly. It is not only for your safety, but also the safety of others.
