Polk County Begins Solar Power Installation on Facilities - Polk County Iowa Des Moines, IA- On Tuesday, Polk County Supervisors approved funding for the first phase of the installation of solar panels on county-owned buildings. The $2.3 million dollar investment will be a major step forward in the effort to reduce the county’s carbon footprint 90% by 2040.

UPDATE: The Polk County Extreme Temperature Plan will be deactivated on Tuesday, July 16.

The Polk County Extreme Temperature Plan will be activated on July 12, 2024, based on forecast temperatures from the National Weather Service.
Activation of the plan includes:
●weather amnesty at area homeless shelters,
●activation of cooling/warming centers, and
●free access to these locations on DART buses.

Polk county is proud to support this innovative entrepreneur incubator project, ‘Center at Sixth’ in the Riverbend neighborhood.

Supervisor Angela Connolly took part in a beam signing ceremony recognizing all partners who helped make this transformational project a reality on Des Moines north side.

The ceremony marks the last part of the structure under construction. As a thank you for all that made the project possible, partners signed their names on the final construction beam.

Polk County Supervisor Matt McCoy was proud to take part in the ribbon cutting for the new Community Support Advocates West Des Moines location. The board presented CSA with a Community Betterment Grant to support their newest campus.

The situation: You just can’t handle your wheels getting towed right now.
The fix: Don’t park on Illinois St. or at area businesses near the skatepark.

This area is marked as a no-parking zone. And cars are being towed for violating the rules of the street. While area construction is underway you should park on Robert D Ray Dr. and cross the river via the Women of Achievement bridge, or use street parking near the Iowa Events Center.

And hang in there. The new parking lot will be done before you know it!

Polk County presented Community & Family Resources (CFR) with a community development grant to the capital campaign for the Grays Woods Recovery Center. This Community Development Grant from the Board of Supervisors underscores the county’s commitment to addressing the critical need for comprehensive behavioral health treatment and recovery services in the region.

This Juneteenth, our Polk County team was proud to make a difference! 🌟 We were proud to celebrate by giving back to our community in Polk County:

🍲 We packed 28,000 meals for Meals From The Heartland, ensuring no one went hungry.
🌳 We helped restore Greenfield, Iowa, by aiding in the cleanup efforts from recent tornado damage.

On Tuesday, Polk County Supervisors signed a proclamation recognizing Juneteeth in our community. This proclamation recognizes this national holiday as a day of service in Polk County.
