Duluth Superior ECO Rotary Club

Had a great presentation on Destination Duluth by Jerry Thoreson, fellow Rotarian from Rotary Club of Duluth #25. We, the members of the Duluth Superior ECO Rotary Club, learned a great deal about how Destination Duluth is able to attract considerable and consistent traffic through its well-managed social media and other channels to put Duluth and adjacent communities around the Lake Superior 🌊 on the radar for globetrotters and travelers seeking pleasure, solitude, and making memories through “sense of place.”

Fellow Rotarians of the Duluth Superior ECO Rotary Club learned a great deal of the Twin Ports REKO ring - Fresh food from local farms from wonderful guest speaker, Mehgan Blair, at this week's club meeting! The concept and the application amplifies the values of localization and sustainability by supporting local farmers with sustainable farming (and, sustainable living) initiatives 👍 💕

Here's today's and it's outta this world! On this day, July 21st 1969, American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the Moon. He stepped out of the Apollo 11 lunar module and onto the Moon's surface in an area called the 'Sea of Tranquility.'

Neil Armstrong was also a Rotarian who belonged to the Rotary Club of Wapakoneta, Ohio in the United States. Following his walk on the moon his home Club of Wapakoneta made him an honorary life member. 🌚🚀👨‍🚀

Members of our Duluth Superior ECO Rotary Club had a great educational tour at the Historic Duluth Armory. Built in 1925, this place served the military and the Duluth community for decades. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places - NPS. Currently, the establishment is going through restoration construction with a grand opening planned for fall of 2025. Urchick is seen as a uniter. Find her at any event and you'll see people gathered around her, listening intently — much like players gather huddled around their coach. District 5580 was living out the first theme of the international convention ‘Sharing Connections With The World’ today. First, we joined together at the opening session and then celebrated at our District 5580 hawker center night out. What a great group of Rotarians!

Thanks all that were able to join us yesterday for our Duluth Superior Eco Rotary meeting! An extra big thanks goes out to Mayor Reinert for making time in your busy schedule to join us and offer great insight into thinking happening within the city. We also appreciate the extra ideas as to how we can continue to contribute as members and citizens to enhance the beauty and natural green spaces of our region.

Applications for Fall 2024 Lawns to Legumes pollinator habitat projects are now open! 🐝

The Lawns to Legumes program aims to increase habitat for at-risk pollinators in residential settings across the state by providing people with cost-share funding, workshops, coaching and gardening resources.

Anyone who lives in Minnesota and has a yard, deck, or other outdoor space for planting can apply to be reimbursed for up to $400 in costs associated with establishing new pollinator habitat in their yards.

Applications will be accepted through May 15, 2024. If you previously applied for the program, you will need to reapply to be considered for Fall 2024 funding.

December‘s ECO Rotary Winter Solstice party is a combination FFN and service project!

Come join for the campfire, chili, hot toddies, and creating of gift bags to hand out to people in Duluth‘s homeless community. Some of our members have already stepped up with donations; Theresa H. is making cloth bags and Mark N. Is donating socks. Other members are encouraged to bring items that would be valuable to the homeless in our community.
