Everybody's talking about Grandma's Marathon in Duluth this weekend, but did you know there's a alum who is an integral part of the team that runs this epic event?

Zach Schneider '06, Marketing & Public Relations Director of Grandma's Marathon - Duluth, Inc., took a timeout during his busy week of preparation to check in with us. Zach was also featured as an Inspiration in Action alumni for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The Class of '24 received diplomas last Friday and our guest speaker was HanVit Oh from the class of 2014. HanVit was an 8th grader from South Korea when she began her journey here on the hilltop. Since then, she's received a bachelor's degree in Global Health and International Studies and a Masters in Public Health. She currently works at the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities at the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. She was also featured as an Inspiration in Action alumni for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Thank you HanVit!

🍨What a great way to kick off summer!

After a day of Monday meetings, teachers had the chance to catch up with members of the Class of 2023 during yesterday's "What's the Scoop?" event.

We had a build your own sundae bar and our alums were able to give us an update on all they've been doing during their first year away. Thanks for visiting!

Start figuring out what fills your cup! That's just one piece of advice Kellen Goldschmidt '05 has for our current students.

Goldschmidt spoke to Amber Minardi's Biology classes last month. Kellen is currently an Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Charlotte, North Carolina, but she plans to return to work in Duluth in 2025.

As part of our Inspiration in Action program, Goldschmidt visited classes through zoom to share what she's learned in the years since graduating. She says it's important to get early exposure to careers you might be interested in - and that means more than just an hour of job shadowing. She also suggests that high school students think more "big picture" about their futures. For example, Goldschmidt says, "Do I want to work indoors or outdoors? In a quiet environment or a loud environment?" Kellen also answered questions about the path to a medical career, which she says is long and requires being efficient and focused.

Thanks for being an inspiration to our students, Kellen!

If you know of an inspiring alum, head to our website and fill out the nomination form! We love hearing what great things our alums are up to!

True power emerges from the discovery of your authentic voice, that unique blend of experiences, values, and perspectives that define who you are.

When you find and use that voice, you not only empower yourself but also inspire and influence those around you. This kind of power is deeply rooted in integrity and purpose. It allows you to make a meaningful difference in the world, whether through advocacy, leadership, creativity, or everyday interactions.

Our faculty and staff (and a few special guests) bid a fond farewell to two beloved teachers yesterday. Dr. Susan Nygaard and Paul Pearson will retire at the end of this school year.

Dr. Nygaard began teaching at Marshall 28 years ago, and Pearson has been at Marshall for 33 years.

We shared lots of fond memories during Wednesday's celebration. Please share yours here if you'd like!

Susan and Paul, thank you for your dedication to our students - we wish you well in your retirement!

After 33 years of dedication to Marshall School and a total of 36 years in the teaching profession, Mr. Paul Pearson is set to embark on a well-deserved retirement at the end of the 2023-24 school year.

Throughout his tenure, Mr. Pearson has not only imparted knowledge but also left an indelible mark on the hearts of his students. His witty humor, passion for baseball, and love for the Minnesota Twins have made him a beloved figure in the school community.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Pearson's desk has served as a hub for both math assistance and invaluable life advice. He's been a mentor, a friend, and a listening ear to countless students, making a lasting impact far beyond equations and formulas.

Let's take a moment to express our gratitude and share our fondest memories of Mr. Pearson in the comments below ⬇

Jim McGregor was back on campus this week visiting with our seniors. McGregor is a proud honorary member of the Cathedral Class of '71 and was driving home the message that life is about taking risks and really getting out there to expand your horizons.

Our students found McGregor interesting and engaging, and asked questions about his life in China, where he lived and worked for over 30 years, his job as a political reporter, and the current state of politics around the world.
