To strengthen our communities by uniting people and resources.
This year, we are working with Duluth’s local youth serving agencies, the School District of Superior, the Lake Superior School District, and the Ashland School District to distribute the supplies collected in each community.
The goal is to ensure that every child starts the school year with the tools they need to succeed.
All donations, whether big or small, are appreciated!

It's that time of the year again! Join Head of the Lakes United Way in our annual Stuff the Bus. Stuff the Bus is a community-wide initiative aimed at collecting school supplies for students that need them most.
The goal is to ensure that every child starts the school year with the tools they need to be successful. We rely on partnerships with local school districts and youth-serving agencies to distribute the supplies.

- The Damiano Center is looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve the meal for the Day of Caring Annual Picnic.
- Mentor North, is looking for people to help promote advance ticket sales for their Mentor North Summer Fest to build higher attendance at the event and help sustain quality youth mentoring across the Twin Ports.

Family Rise Together is looking for more volunteers for their annual Twin Ports Juneteenth celebration on June 15th from 12-6 at Harrison Park Community Center.
For the event they need people to serve food, restock, clean tables, sign people in, collect trash, monitor the kid activities especially the bouncy castle, bring food/drinks to the vendors, relieve other volunteers for breaks and assist elders or disabled members of the community. Clean up shift will be from 6pm till possibly 8pm. They are also looking for volunteers the day before on June 14th for food prep and setup.
If you can't commit to the whole time, that's okay! They will take you for however much time you can give!

Whether you are thinking about board service, are currently serving, or are a seasoned board member looking for a refresher – this program is for you. While we will focus on board basics, it is information that few people get when they sign on to start serving on a nonprofit board. You will also meet leaders from area nonprofits to hear more about their work and learn more about what they are looking for in potential board members.
This training will take place in two sessions either in-person or virtual on July 16 and 18 from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM.

We are so excited to announce that Sara Niemi will be joining the Head of the Lakes United Way team as our next president!
Sara Niemi has over ten years of development and nonprofit administration experience. She has spent her last six years as the Executive Director of PAVSA in Duluth, a social services agency that supports survivors of sexual violence. She holds a Master of Arts in Counseling and Psychological Services and has certificates in Fundraising & Revenue Development and Human Resources Management. She was a 2023 “20 Under 40” Recipient from the Duluth News Tribune. Sara is active in community volunteering and currently serves on the Minnesota Council of Nonprofit Board of Directors. She is very excited to join the team at the Head of the Lakes United Way and is passionate about building resources for nonprofits in our area and supporting volunteerism.
