Sight words!!!
During Our Summer Fun Camp program, we are taking the next step to help your child learn to read. Being able to recognize sight words is important because these words make up between 50-70% of the words we encounter in text. Many of these words cannot be “sounded out”. Learning sight words can be fun! We know children learn best when we use multi-sensory strategies. This means that children are more likely to learn and remember when we provide opportunities to use as many of the senses as possible when we teach a skill.

Summer Fun Camp!
Our Food exploration week is encouraging campers to whip up new recipes while exploring the culinary world. On Friday, our kitchen chemists will experiment with mixing different ingredients to decorate extraordinary desserts with a local baker! We are encouraging discovery and creativity, and allowing campers to explore foods in a fun way!

LEARNING IS SWEET!!
We are using candy as a motivational tool for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities! It's amazing the amount of focus when we use sweets for materials, so we created a bundle of activities for edible Engineering. The kids are sure to sit up straight and listen when they see the “equipment” they will be using to solve problems this week. From Swedish fish to Pop Rocks, this is a tasty week for candy experiments.

Firefighter Tom visited Dunmore Kids to educate kids about fire safety!
The kids learned safety awareness tips and got an up-close-and-personal look at the fireman's gear. They also watched a demonstration of a firefighter suiting up, just like they do at the station during an emergency call. Thank you, Fireman Tom!

LETS LEARN ABOUT THE BRAIN!!
Have you ever stopped to think about your brain and all the amazing things that it does? This week, we are learning how to use our brains in ways never thought possible. Their favorite activity was discovering Michelangelo’s ceiling project! Boy, do we have some smart cookies!

Children are fascinated by animals, and most have more than just a passing interest in plants as well, which is why we had a fun-filled week learning and exploring the food chain!

Bowling 4 Bucks with Dunmore Elementary Center!
Dunmore Kids Creative Learning Center was happy to help support and sponsor the Dunmore PTA in their annual Bowling 4 Bucks Family Fun Day at Idle Hour Lanes! The Dunmore PTA did a fantastic job with this event and we were thrilled to be part of this family fun event!

Preschool STEM!
Volcanoes are another favorite science activity for our preschoolers! Just making a volcano is almost too simple for our crew, so we added a few STEM challenges to let them explore and investigate with sensory bottles.

A word wall is an important part of our balanced literacy program at Dunmore Kids. It helps students learn the alphabet, letter sounds, the first letter in their name, names of classmates, the sequence of the alphabet, and even sight words! We are so proud of how much our students have learned!

The students at Dunmore Kids are creating a bridge from popiscle sticks and solo cups while using their engineering creativity!

This week's fairy-tale-based theme draws upon the story elements found in fairy tales to provide a rich assortment of literacy and math activities all around our favorite fairy tale, Rumplestiltskin! Check out our gold slime we created to go along with the story.

Quack, Quack! The Pre-Kindergarten Enrichment class learned about the life cycle of one of their favorite animals!

Apples are the perfect theme in the fall! It is easy to get them, they taste wonderful, and they're super fun to learn with! From Apple pie play dough to our STEM activity "sink or float," our Pre-Kindergarten Enrichment class had a blast!!
