Local-850 members pitched in this morning, carrying on the long standing tradition of giving back to our community during the Thanksgiving holiday. Shopping, assembling, and delivering complete holiday dinner baskets ready to be passed along to those less fortunate. Once again we have partnered up with Shaw’s Market and the East Providence Boys and Girls Club to make all of this possible. We’d also like to recognize New Image Car Wash for their contribution, assisting us in completing this mission. Great work everyone!
We would like to send our most sincere condolences to the Ferrara family as they mourn the loss of Salvatore, retired EPFD and Local-850 member. May he rest in peace.

We thank all of our veterans for their service to our country. We are proud to have members, past and present, who served in the armed forces. We also have members who continue to remain active in our military branches. We reserve a moment of silence for all that have passed.
Great way to start the day! Good luck to all teams playing today.
Great time for a great cause.

Sharing some helpful information provided by our partners in public safety.
Please be aware of alternate traffic patterns and road closures this evening due to fireworks displays in East Providence and the India Point Park area in Providence. Residents and visitors to East Providence can expect delays in the area of Pierce Field, Veteran's Memorial Parkway, Warren Avenue, Bold Point Park, and South Broadway. East Providence Police will be directing traffic at various locations throughout the area. The routes to exit the fireworks viewing areas may not be convenient but is necessary to alleviate the traffic in the city as quickly and safely as possible. You can expect delays and heavy traffic in these areas from 6:00 pm to midnight tonight. Please allow extra time to get around these locations. We hope everyone enjoys the festivities tonight!
In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations over this weekend, we ask that everyone celebrate responsibly and safely. HAPPY 4TH EVERYBODY!!!
Legal vs. Illegal Fireworks
Legal Fireworks
In Rhode Island, only ground and hand-held sparkling devices (“sparklers”) are legal for use by the general public, sixteen years of age or older. These devices are ground based or hand-held devices that produce a shower of white, gold, or colored sparks as their primary pyrotechnic effect. Additional effects may include a colored flame, an audible crackling effect, an audible whistle effect, and smoke. These devices do not rise into the air, do not fire inserts or projectiles into the air, and do not explode or produce a report. (A mild audible crackling-type effect is not considered to be a report.) Ground-based or hand-held devices that produce a cloud of smoke as their sole pyrotechnic effect are also included in this category.
Rhode Island General Law § 11-13-1 states that no one can sell, use or possess display fireworks or aerial consumer fireworks. Certain fireworks and devices that are exempt from the definitions of display fireworks and aerial consumer fireworks include but are not limited to:
Ground-based & hand-held sparkling devices
Fountains
Illuminating torches, wheels, spinners, flitter sparklers
Sparklers, party poppers, snappers, toy smoke devices, snakes, glow worms, wire sparklers & dipped sticks
Illegal Fireworks
Any firecrackers, rockets, mortars, or any other device that launches a projectile and/or makes a "bang"/detonation/report are illegal per RIGL § 11-13-1.
To file a complaint or report the use of illegal fireworks, contact your local police department. DO NOT call 9-1-1 to report fireworks or loud noises.
The men and women of IAFF Local-850 would like everyone to take a moment of silence today in remembrance of all those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great country.
Congratulations to all! We look forward to welcoming you aboard in just a short few months.
