This week, the County and the City of El Paso recognized April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Our theme "I Believe You" is critical for SAAM for a few key reasons:

•Survivors Often Face Disbelief: One of the biggest hurdles survivors face is overcoming feelings of isolation and shame due to disbelief from those around them.

•Empowers Survivors to Speak Up: When survivors feel believed, it can empower them to come forward and report the assault. This is crucial for holding perpetrators accountable and getting help for survivors.

•Shifts Focus to Support: By believing survivors, the focus shifts from questioning their stories to offering support and resources. This creates a safe space for healing.

•Challenges Societal Norms: Sexual assault is often shrouded in silence and stigma. This theme directly challenges those norms and promotes open conversations.

04/04/2024

CASFV's Outreach Facilitator, Pablo Ortega, deep dives into the dynamics of sexual assault giving you essential insight into this critical issue.

Believing survivors of sexual assault is crucial for several reasons:
-Supports Healing: When a survivor is believed, it validates their experience and helps them move towards healing.
-Breaks the Cycle of Silence: When survivors are believed and supported, it sends a message that sexual assault won't be tolerated.
-Improves Mental Health: Survivors who are believed are more likely to seek help and experience better mental health outcomes.

CASFV believes you. Our Hopeline is available 24/7 at 915.593.7300

Stalking is a prevalent victimization. Despite stalking rates similar to those of intimate partner and sexual violence, few resources exist to support victims and survivors of stalking.

Stalking is illegal in all U.S. states and territories. Engaging in stalking behaviors is a criminal offense, and offenders must be held accountable. Learn more about your jurisdiction’s stalking laws at https://www.stalkingawareness.org/map/
