May 16 is National Honor Our LGBTQ+ Elders Day, a time to pay
tribute to those who have paved the way for the LGBTQ+
community to obtain and continue to seek important legislation and rights.
We have numerous elders to thank for the strides made over
the last several decades towards equality. As with other civil
rights movements, their work has not been easy. Their
struggles and victories are marked by courage, persistence,
passion, and authenticity so, today, we celebrate them. Credit: https://www.lgbtagingcenter.org/resources/resource.cfm?r=2102
Having fun is what drag has always been about. A form of gender bending that involves performers creating personas, most often of the opposite s*x that they were born as, drag shows date back to at least the 1870s. And while the art is closely associated with LGBTQ communities, it’s never been limited to them, and plenty of straight men and women have experimented with it as well.
Shoutout to Klondike Drag, this is a wonderful article 🏳️🌈
The art of drag from the Klondike queens “You’re born naked and the rest is drag,” Brytan Felter said, quoting the popular drag performer RuPaul. “And the more I think about it, the more that’s just been my
Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms and mothering people! 💗💐
It was the love of a mother that drove the creation of PFLAG, and your love and support continue to make an impact in the LGBTQ+ community. Today we celebrate LGBTQ+ moms, ally moms, chosen moms, gender nonconforming moms, and all mothering people for everything you do. 🏳️🌈
Be sure to share some love for the mothering people in your life. ❤️💛💚💙💜

“Over the past few weeks, the Alaska State House Judiciary Committee has heard three different bills that affect transgender youth in Alaska. To better understand what it means to be transgender in Alaska, I conducted a series of interviews. I spoke with trans youth, their parents, experts in the field of transgender health, and others. I released those conversations on my podcast, “The East Anchorage Book Club.” The goal was to better understand transgender people in general, and in Alaska in particular. Here are excerpts, lightly edited for clarity and brevity:
Trans youth are real and have always been here”

Local Advocate Spotlight:
David Leslie is an Inupiaq Sipiniq (Two-Spirit) living in Fairbanks. He is a frequent testifier against the anti-trans bills moving through the Alaska State House. We discuss his specific perspective as a q***r Alaska Native man.To check out the book recommended by our guest, Yuuyaraq: The Way of The Human Being, by Harold Napoleon, Click here. This episode is part of a series on trans rights. The inspiration for these interviews is three bills currently moving through the Alaska State House: HB 183 which bans trans girls from playing girls sports; HB 105 which requires kids to get signed permission slips approving their preferred name and pronouns; and HB 338 which allows doctors to be sued up to 20 years after performing gender affirming procedures on trans youth.Alaska has many big problems. The pressing need to increase the funding of our public school system and finding a solution for an imminent energy crisis, for example. But instead of working on these very real, very substantial problems, we are spending the last weeks of session debating whether trans youth exist and have rights. They do exist; they do have rights.
