We invite you to join us in the Wave of Light by lighting a candle at 7pm local time and let it burn for at least one hour to remember all babies that we carry in our hearts instead of in our arms. We would love to see pictures of your candles and know who you are remembering, please share them with us.

Embracing the rollercoaster of our children's emotions paves the way for their emotional strength and understanding. When we, as parents, stand beside them through the storms of their feelings, we show them that it's okay to feel, to express, and to grow. This incredible insight from the Jai Institute for Parenting reminds us that our role as parents isn't just about guiding but also about nurturing emotional resilience in our children.
The problem is society

School is starting back up, so here are a few quick reminders for parents about adolescent anxiety from a mental health counselor who has spent a decade working in middle and high schools:
1. No one is happy all the time. I know we know this, but it can be so hard to see our kids anxious, sad, hurt, angry, frustrated etc. One of the most important questions is, "Do my child's emotions fit the situation?" If they are sad/angry/upset/etc. because something difficult has happened, then that is an appropriate response. If these emotions persist for extended periods of time without a known trigger, than that may be a sign they need additional help.
2. Some nerves are normal and even helpful! New situations trigger some nerves, and that is ok. Normalize feeling nervous going into a new class or taking on a new activity. That shows you care and want to do well.
3. Returning to school after time off (whether it's summer break or a long weekend) can make it a little harder to go back. Please do not give in and give your kids 'one extra day.' Getting back in the habit helps them get back on schedule and makes it easier in the long run.
4. One of the best way for kids to make friends is to get them involved in something -whether it's a sport, a club, or playing an instrument. We all connect better with people who have similar interests, so these are the spaces kids tend to find their people.
5. If you are at a loss with how to help your child at school, reach out to the school counselor. They can help provide strategies and support for students struggling with anxiety and other issues.
6. If after a couple weeks of school, your child is still struggling (not wanting to go to school, extreme emotions, struggling socially, etc.), it may be helpful to seek outside counseling. Starting Point Counseling Center works with high school age students to address a variety of mental health concerns. If we can be of help, contact us today: (972)962-9579.
Wishing you a gentle Fatherโs Day.
As we get ready to celebrate dads this weekend, donโt forget the fathers whose hearts may be hurting.
To those who have lost a child but protect their emotions from others.
To those who have been that shoulder to cry on, the pillar of strength as their spouse wonders how to navigate life after loss.
To those who feel like life has stopped, yet the world around them continues like normal.
To those who grieve quietly, immersing themselves in work as their way of coping with loss.
To those who are broken but donโt want to appear weak in front of others.
To those who are mourning a loss, no matter how much time has passed.
And to those who are longing to be a father, but unfortunately face the heartache of infertility.
We see you.
Fatherโs Day can look different for those facing the burden of loss.
As we celebrate dads this coming weekend, let us offer comfort and peace to those who may be silently grieving.
We see you, and weโre forever grateful for you.

Happy Easter ๐ฃ
Grief and Easter: Remembering Loved Ones - Whats your Grief For me, Easter isnโt the first holiday that jumps to mind when discussing how hard grief can be on holidays or special days. Have you heard of the 5 stages of death and dying?
Did you know these stages do not apply to the grief felt by the bereaved? Grief is not linear and can not be encapsulated by a neat and tidy progression of stages to navigate through.
Stages of Grief: The Harmful Myth That Refuses to Die Grieving is not that simple, and being better informed serves us far better.
