Ask just about any fly fisher why they like to fish, and one of the first things we are likely to say is that time and troubles all but disappear when we’re on the water. After experiencing this phenomenon for years, I began to lean in to the aspects of the sport that contributed to its meditative quality. In doing so, I found that elevated awareness and conscious focus on a few specific areas greatly enhanced that otherworldly experience. But that’s not all. It turns out the same practices that lead to relaxation and calm also make you a better fly angler.

In a world obsessed with shortcuts to performance—10 tips for this, 5 hacks for that, or the ONE secret that will unlock that yet-unrealized level of success—fly fishing beckons us to slow down and take the scenic route. In this presentation, I’ll share some of the decisions you can make, on and off the water, to simultaneously enhance your enjoyment and increase your fly angling success.

Trinity Flyfest Fort Worth’s Urban Fishing Celebration returns to the Trinity River on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Trinity Flyfest will be here before we know it, but did you know that Texas Parks and Wildlife requires a fishing license for everyone 17 and older? The festival will have an open fishing area for anyone who wants to fish along the banks of the Trinity River! Bait and fly anglers welcome.

TRWD is proud to host Trout Stocking events for FWISD students. This time-honored traditon was created to inspire a new generation to learn about fishing along the Trinity River, as well as its role in our local environment.

Today, we will be at the Trinity Park trailhead across from Dream Park Playground. Check out our stories to capture all the activities in real-time!!

Memories from 2017... "Taking a break from the classroom, dozens of students from MH Moore Elementary and JP Elder Middle School get a chance to experience fishing in an urban environment. A team of folks from Tarrant Regional Water District, Cabela's, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Keep Fort Worth Beautiful, Whole Foods Market, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department donated the equipment, the rainbow trout, and some angler coaches to teach the kids about catching fish. Plenty of smiles and happy students makes for a rewarding day on the banks of the Trinity River in Fort Worth."
