All FWISD Schools Except Polytechnic High School Will Open Tomorrow, Jan. 17

Fort Worth ISD is closely monitoring weather conditions and is currently preparing to welcome students on Wednesday, January 17, at the regular starting time.

The District is taking precautions to provide for the well-being of students and staff. Custodial staff will have campuses warm and ready, opening early for students to provide a warm environment.

Please note that all campuses will be open except Polytechnic High School, which will remain closed because the school is completely without heat.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Families are encouraged to dress students in layers to stay warm.

FWISD will continue monitoring weather and road conditions, maintaining communication with the National Weather Service and local agencies.

Las escuelas de FWISD abrirán mañana, 17 de enero, con la excepción de Polytechnic High School

El Distrito Escolar de Fort Worth está monitoreando de cerca las condiciones climáticas y actualmente se está preparando para dar la bienvenida a los estudiantes el miércoles 17 de enero en el horario regular de inicio.

For the safety of Fort Worth ISD students and staff, the district is closing Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024. All extracurricular activities Tuesday have also been canceled.

For Students:

Additional minutes to accommodate inclement weather days are built into the Traditional, Intersessional, and Early College High School District calendars. No make-up days will be required for lost instructional minutes.

For District Employees:

During the emergency weather closure, only District employees designated to work on weather-related or other critical District matters will be authorized to work. All other employees will not be required to work.

The District will seek Board action to compensate all full-time employees during the emergency closure and not require any workday missed to be made up at a later date. The District will also seek Board action to compensate substitutes currently assigned and working on a long-term assignment.

All non-exempt (hourly) employees required to work during the emergency closing would receive premium pay as defined in Board policy DEA (LOCAL).

The FWISD will continue monitoring weather conditions and communicating with the National Weather Service and local agencies. We will share updates via the Fort Worth ISD Mobile App, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the District’s website, www.fwisd.org.

Para la seguridad de los estudiantes y el personal de Fort Worth ISD (FWISD), el Distrito cerrará el martes 16 de enero de 2024. Todas las actividades extracurriculares del martes también se cancelaron.

Para los estudiantes:

Minutos adicionales para acomodar los días de inclemencias del clima están integrados en los calendarios del Distrito de Escuelas Secundarias Tradicional, de Intercesión y de Universidad Temprana. No se requerirán días de recuperación por los minutos de instrucción perdidos.

We have been notified by the contractor that they have resolved their issue that impacted the air conditioning on several Fort Worth ISD campuses.

As a result, the central controls for the air conditioning systems are now functioning properly. However, please note that it may take a little time for the school buildings to cool down to the ideal temperatures.

We understand the importance of providing a comfortable learning environment for your child's education, and we want to assure you that their well-being remains our top priority.

Hemos sido notificados por el contratista que han resuelto su problema que afectó el aire acondicionado en varios campus de Fort Worth ISD.

Fort Worth ISD was informed that an underground telecommunications cable was accidentally damaged during work being done by a contractor. As a result, the District’s central controls for air conditioning at several schools have been impacted.

In response, we have relocated students and staff to air-conditioned areas within school buildings.

However, FWISD has been told the repairs by contractors have encountered delays, and they do not have a timeline for completion.

The following nine schools currently do not have air conditioning and families have been informed that they may pick up their children:

Carroll Peak Elementary
Luella Merrett Elementary
Metro Opportunity School
North Side High School
Rolling Hills Elementary
Springdale Elementary
S.S. Dillow Elementary
Waverly Park Elementary
Westpark Elementary

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause and appreciate your understanding. We will continue to provide updates.
