Jewel Hale, a Taylor (TX) native, who enjoys fishing started her Ranger career as a Summer Ranger at Granger Lake. With more than 9 years of experience, she is currently the Lead Ranger at Belton Lake. She became a Ranger because she enjoys wildlife and working outdoors. She applied for the Summer Ranger job and loved it, and after that first summer, she went to college to meet the education requirements to become a full-time ranger. Right now her future plans aren't set in stone as she truly enjoys what she is doing now. But she hopes to continue to learn and grow professionally. Her best advice for new Rangers is simply to be happy

Due to declining lake levels, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Somerville Lake has closed the public waterfowl area located between the Pecan Lake and McCain Creek areas as well as the 39 waterfowl hunting blinds. Currently, the lake elevation is 231.95msl or .05 below the cutoff elevation of 232.00msl. Lake staff will continue to monitor the elevation to determine if waterfowl hunting can be re-opened before the season ends.
Boaters are urged to continue to use caution and slow down while boating on Somerville Lake as once submerged obstacles are now emerging and pose potential hazards due to low lake levels. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages anyone recreating on or in Somerville Lake to wear a lifejacket and practice water safety.

Meet U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District Mechanical Engineer Manuel Diaz who is assisting with the Hawaiʻi Wildfires as an office engineer. In this position Diaz works to support USACE resident engineers by improving Emergency Field Office processes and keeping the Debris Mission running smoothly.
This is the first deployment for Diaz, and he said he likes being in Maui and trying to help other people through his work with USACE. Diaz said he is gaining experience on the mission and is learning to collaborate with other team members.
“I feel like after this mission I will have a different mind because helping other people is something that I like to do,” said Diaz. “I think that having this experience, working so hard, working with other people and meeting new people is great.”

Cassy Hill, originally from Comanche, Oklahoma, has been a Ranger for more than four years and is stationed at Belton Lake. She became a Ranger because she is passionate about preserving public lands and providing a space for generations to recreate and enjoy the outdoors. Hill believes to be successful you must do whatever it takes to further the mission and that nothing is not your job. She hopes to continue her career with USACE to work in operations where she can help manage parks and recreation areas. To relax, she enjoys bowling with friends.

MJ’s parents were overjoyed to be reunited with their pup and the Whitney Lake staff were thrilled for a happy outcome and to play a small part in MJ’s big adventure.
