A new AAP clinical report reviews the growing array of drinks marketed to children six months through three years and advertised as ‘follow-up formulas,’ ‘weaning formulas,’ or ‘toddler milks and formulas’. The report finds these products are misleadingly promoted as a necessary part of a healthy child’s diet, have no regulatory oversight, and offer no benefit over much less expensive cow’s milk for most children. Some children may have special nutritional needs so families should always discuss their personal situation with their pediatrician.
