Behind The Smile, Inc.
We want to educate today's youth and their parents on what goes on behind the smile. Behind The Smile, Inc. was founded in memory of Tyler Martin.
On March 17, 2017, Tyler took his life, at the age of 14. After his death, friends and family kept remarking on Tyler's smile. He had a beautiful smile, and always appeared happy. What was behind his smile? Tyler was not bullied; Tyler was considered popular; Tyler played multiple sports at his school. Tyler would never have been on a watch-list for su***de. Our mission is to educate today's youth

This is great news! Getting help is now even easier!
Today is a historical day for su***de prevention and mental health in the U.S.! The National Su***de Prevention Lifeline, now known as the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, can be more easily reached by calling or texting 988, or chatting on 988lifeline.org.
988 serves as a universal entry point so that no matter where you live in the U.S., you can easily access 24/7 emotional support. You do not have to be suicidal to reach out. Our trained crisis counselors can help you through whatever mental health challenges you are experiencing.
We're so grateful to SAMHSA, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Federal Communications Commission, and our other su***de prevention and mental health partners in the field for working together to get us here, and we look forward to growing and expanding our services and supports in the years to come.
Looking for a brave young athlete?
Look to a young man named Dayne Shor.
I’d like to offer up the story of a young football player who is leaving the University Of Alabama.
His story is both touching and inspiring.
Dayne Shor is a Bama freshman who has shown courage in speaking out about mental illness.
An offensive lineman from Alpharetta, GA, Dayne has dealt with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts over the last several years.
He says he needs a break from football to address his mental health.
Dayne would like to speak to you from the heart about his decision to leave Bama, and how he is coping.
Dayne writes:
“My name is Dayne Allan Shor, and I am dealing with the struggle of mental health.
I have dealt with the pain and depression of anxiety for what seems like a long time now.
“Two years ago, I was fighting for my life against mental illness.
It is safe to say that every day I was suffering and living in darkness.
The feeling of wanting to take your own life is a feeling like no other, and a feeling that I wish no one else has to feel.
“The voices in my head would often take control of my life.
There are wounds that will never show on my body, but they are deeper and more painful than any physical wound that bleeds.
The pain and struggle of mental health is horrendous.
“People who struggle with mental pain find ways to hide it in plain sight.
A lot of people would say I have the perfect life or that I have everything going for me.
Please do not get me wrong, as the experience of being recruited was incredible, and one I thank God for every day.
“Still, outside of football, I was struggling massively.
I have been told that I am lucky to be alive.
In my heart, I know that football is what ultimately saved my life, as it gave me the motivation to keep going.
“The (Herren Wellness Center) has provided me with the tools and coping skills that I will carry and continue to build upon for the rest of my life.
From this day on, a new Dayne Shor is born.
I will finish what I started 13 years ago when I first stepped onto the field.
Everyone will be seeing a new me, and I will make an impact wherever I go.
“Let’s get to work!”
Dayne may be leaving Tuscaloosa, but he’s speaking from his heart and seeking treatment, and that’s a beautiful, brave thing.
And regardless of where he winds up, Dayne is looking at brighter days ahead.
Let’s send our best to Dayne Shor.
A young man who is looking to a bright future.
