Title 1 Hope
Title 1 Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger among school children and their families of Title 1 schools. The answer is YES!!!!!
Are there hungry children in our public school system? Could it be possible that the child sitting next to yours in the classroom, is crying at night, due to hunger? Is the only meal he/she eats at school? What about their younger siblings and family at home? Is it possible that such hunger exists, right here in the United States? These children are known as "food insecure". They don't look forwar
Food box assembly for the 2020 season was provided by the Chavez & Branham families. They were able to crank out 100 boxes in record time! The dedicated employees of Gila Crossing Community School conducted their own assembly of 200 boxes. That left only 25 boxes, which I completed in my own kitchen. It reminded me of the early days of Title 1 Hope!
It is clear that the Lord Jesus heard the prayers of the Board of Directors and many others who prayed. He blessed our efforts and provided exactly what was needed.
On behalf of Title 1 Hope, the children, families, schools, and communities we serve, we thank you for your continued support of this great need. Many blessings to all of you!
The deliveries for the 2020 season were few. Title 1 Hope served four schools this year. With limited finances, we provided food boxes to the schools that requested help. This was our sixth year serving Barry Goldwater High School! Royal Palm and Arroyo Middle School of the Washington Elementary School District received support. The largest donation of 200 boxes went to Gila Crossing Community School.
Shopping for the 2020 season proved to be a major challenge as the pandemic resulted in purchase limits on food. Therefore, we were not able to place large orders which resulted in multiple grocery trips to shop as an individual, seven total. Title 1 Hope gained a new friend in Elizabeth Duncan, a complete stranger who responded to a post on the Next Door app by Michael Tupponce. She helped me shop and deliver the product from Winco on Bell in Glendale, all the way to Laveen! There were other people who helped, as well. Sargon Youmaran, when he heard about Title 1 Hope and the great need, volunteered a substantial amount of his time to help shop, deliver product to the assembly locations, and deliver the food boxes. Elizabeth, Sargon and his beautiful wife, and others were a blessing to the children, families, schools, and the communities we served.
For the 2020 season, Michael Tupponce, a teacher at Gila Crossing Community School requested 200 food boxes for the students. He helped shop for the food, gathered volunteers amongst his colleagues, posted the need on the Next Door app in his neighborhood, and got all 200 boxes assembled and delivered!!! His efforts resulted in a monetary donation of $500 to Title 1 Hope from the Kiwanis Club of Phoenix, and three additional private donors! A complete stranger who saw his posting on Next Door offered to help shop, deliver product, and donate money. She brought the need to her Kiwanis Club which resulted in the donation. She is no longer a stranger😄
In 2019, Title 1 Hope ultimately provided 842 food boxes which served three school districts and 17 schools. That is a total of 50,520 individual meals!!! We had set a goal of 600 boxes and surpassed that. This was only accomplished by the incredible amount of support from those who volunteered their time, finances, and other resources.
This past December for the 2020 season, we faced daunting challenges which left us wondering if we would be able to provide any food boxes at all. How could we hold a very important food box assembly event in the face of COVID? Grocers were restricting the amounts of food purchased so how could we even get the contents for the boxes? Schools were not in session on campus so how would the boxes be delivered and to what schools? Without fundraising, where would we get the money needed for the boxes?
The Board of Directors held virtual meetings to brainstorm these hurdles. The possibility of not providing food boxes was immediately removed as the need was so great. With fewer resources, we quickly recognized the amount of boxes would be reduced, so we limited distribution to the schools who contacted us for help. With all of this, we prayed and asked the Lord Jesus to bless our efforts.
Title 1 Hope provided 325 food boxes in 2020!
The Chavez family reached out and asked if they could help, and with the help of the Branham family, held their own private food box assembly to the tune of 100 boxes!!!! They even delivered them to Barry Goldwater High School!
