Woof. If we’re being honest, this week has been tough. Yesterday we said an unexpected goodbye to, Mike. We knew his time would be shorter than most dogs, but had no idea it would be this short. Overnight, Mikey began experiencing several seizures and they worsened while at the emergency hospital. Our hearts are broken for Mike, but he’s not hurting anymore. His foster family certainly is though. Sarah and Jordan signed up to foster an adorable, highly adoptable, black lab mix puppy. They didn’t know Mike would have medical issues, but they never flinched, they never complained, they just loved him and loved him, taking the very best care of him. So, if you could send Sarah and Jordan some love and keep them in your thoughts, they are really missing their boy. We hope you spun your way across the rainbow bridge, Mike, and are enjoying seeing things clearly. Rest easy, buddy. We will take care of your mom and dad. 🖤🌈

Chandler’s response when we admired his shiny black coat: “Oh thanks! I grow it myself.”

This adorable smarty pants can’t wait to find his forever home. He’s approaching a year old and is around 50 pounds. He’s super sweet and eager to please. He’d love a friendly dog to play with or an active person to take him on lots of adventures.

Shyro. This sweet boy. He was old and he was sick. And the absolute sweetest. Back in March he found himself at the shelter and we knew his time was limited. We sent out a message to our volunteers for someone who might be willing to be his fospice home. Dawn immediately volunteered her family. We thought Shyro only had a couple of weeks but thanks to Dawn and her amazing care for him, Shyro got much, much longer. Yesterday, Dawn said a goodbye that broke her heart but set his free. He peed on all the rugs, got stuck in the litter box, rolled in freshly planted flowers, and trampled the existing ones for good measure. He was the captain of an mascot of an entire Peleton team, but would prefer to be referred to as the captain. But most importantly he was loved, so loved. Fostering couldn’t save his life, but it certainly changed it. To Dawn and her family, thank you for saying yes even though you knew the ending of the story would come soon. And to Shyro, we already miss you so much. We’re glad you’re not hurting and hope you are enjoying endless garden destruction on the other end of the rainbow. 🌈

Mikey joined Hearts of Hope as a foster pup back in October 2023, and until about a month ago, he’d been patiently awaiting a family to apply to adopt him. Mikey is now considered a fospice dog. See his story and fospice update below:

Mike, his parents, and littermates were surrendered to Pound Buddies in October. He and his littermates, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pups, were moved into individual foster homes with Hearts of Hope shortly after they arrived. Soon after Mike came to live with us we noticed that he had an unusual way of walking. He put his paws out in front of him like he was trying to feel his way around. During a routine wellness visit at one of our partner vets, the doctor at Fur Wellness noticed some abnormalities too. Our friends at Family Friends Veterinary Hospital evaluated him as well and recommended a trip to Blue Pearl. There his vision was assessed and we met Dr. Diehl, a great neurologist! After a pricey MRI, we found out our sweet little Micheal was born with severe hydrocephalus. This is what causes his abnormal gait and limited vision. We also learned that this would eventually lead to seizure activity.

Mikey had his first seizure this spring and his second this summer. Unfortunately, it’s likely that his seizure activity will continue to increase, and he will slowly decline in his abilities. At this point we made the decision that his foster home will be his forever home. Though our time with Michael may be short we are so grateful he’s part of our lives! He is the most joyful man. He enjoys squeaky toys, playing with his dog siblings, and eating delicious snacks! He loves to help around the house, including loading the dish washer, emptying the dryer, and w**d eating (literally).

Michelangelo turns a whole ONE YEAR OLD at the end of the month! He’s going to celebrate in style with good snacks and his favorite things ❤️

Cici and Frida are just popping in to say "Heyyy" 😏

These little ladies are a sweet bonded pair. They would love a calmer household with a fenced yard so they can continue to enjoy gardening, sunbathing, and yard-zoomies! They are good with other like-minded chill dogs and fine with cats. If you have kids, they'd prefer middle school-aged kids or older.

Apply to adopt this pair by finding their application at www.rescueofhope.com/adopt

🎉🥳🎊 WOO HOO! HUGE, GIANT, THANK YOU to Lucky Dog Farm for their incredibly generous donation of BRAND NEW wheels for Noodles! 😭🥹🥳🎉🎊

Noodles update! It’s and Noodles is here for it! Thanks to so many generous donations and shares Noodles was able to get his surgery!

Noodles was born with Spina bifida, a birth defect where the spine doesn't fully form, leaving a section of the spinal cord and nerves exposed. Noodles came to us one through one of our veterinary partners with a necrotic wound on his leg (sparing VERY gory details) that he likely caused himself due to pain and numbness. His only option was an amputation and it went well! Noodles is doing incredible in his recovery, far better than we anticipated, but the amputation put increased pressure on his last back leg which is weak due to his Spina bifida. Noodles can support himself for small periods of time, but his leg does give out and go numb with the new hops of being a tripod. Noodle is turning one this week and some wheels would be life changing! Not only could he become Mr. Hot Wheels, but his birth defect and failing leg would be fully supported. Noodles has a full life ahead of him and with the extra support of new wheels it will be a long and comfortable life! Anyone have a gently used dog wheelchair lying around? We’ve attached a link to one that would work for Noodles for sizing reference. https://a.co/d/08koLQ6f A huge thank you from Noodles and his Hearts of Hope family to anyone who has some wheels to share that might help Noodles motor along!

Handsome boy Bishop can’t wait to join your family! He is up for adventure and down for cuddles on the couch. His foster mom describes him as loving and loyal. He is a great passenger as he loves car rides. He’s a treat loving boy that enjoys getting pets from new people and he will do just about anything for food. He’s not opposed to water activities (especially if treats are involved-see video in comments). This weekend he was weaving between cones, jumping hurdles, and earning treats which resulted in the happiest of zoomies.

We received the most lovely update about one of our fospice dogs and just had to share.

Grandma M, also known as Potato, Pickles and most recently as Avocado from a neighborhood child who could not remember “Potato,” came to us as a “fospice” dog with dementia, arthritis, and cancer. She is also deaf.

Despite these issues, she is a sweet dog who loves long, slow walks to sniff the neighborhood, as well as cuddling and jerky treats. She shows her love by wagging her tail when she meets new people. She sounds like a pig when she eats and has an adorable snore when she sleeps.

While having an older dog has its challenges, such as making sure she rests when she is eager to go out and walk in the heat or cold, and keeping up with her medications, it is a joy to see her still loving her sniffy walks and snuggles on a daily basis. We have even borrowed a stroller for her on the hotter days when it is hard for her to walk farther than a few houses.

We learned with consistency of schedule and anticipating her needs, she is a happy little lady and we are glad to spoil her as long as we can!

She also is very fashionable with her outfits that help protect a growth on her leg. She loves to show off her style!

06/24/2024

Lily is on the lookout for a human or three or four or five who also like long walkies to the park, occasional snuggles on the couch, and training that involves A LOT of food. This beautiful gal will turn 2 this August and is a lean 41 pounds because she loves to play, play, play. She is medium-high energy pup and spends her down time chewing on bones, trying to destroy her rubber toys, or watching the squirrels and birds. Lily learns routines quickly and enjoys socializing with any dog or human after a proper intro. She would love a confident canine companion to get into some mischief with. Once comfortable and trusting of her humans, she is the most loyal girl! It was originally believed she was an American Staffordshire puppy but as Lily grew, that description seemed incomplete (See: Those Ears). She’s a no on cats and chickens … well, actually she’s a SUPER yes on both … so we re a no on her behalf. To learn more about Lily and her orthodontist commercial worthy teefs head to the link in the comments!

Would you consider short term fostering?

Many of our dedicated foster families have plans to enjoy some summertime travels, and it would help us immensely to have some short term foster families who would be available to host our dogs from 3 days to 3 weeks at a time.

Hearts of Hope would provide all the necessary supplies while you provide a home for the dog to crash for a short time.

Look into Naomi’s eyes, you know you want to say “Yes!”
