We're a few days into prayer walk week - sharing life through the power of prayer. How can we continue to pray while walking in our neighborhoods?

1) Pray for Social Dynamics: Who do you see interacting with one another? Are there places where people gather socially? What kinds of activities are underway? Is there a strong sense of community?
2) Cultural observations: What languages do you hear spoken? Are there any advertisements for cultural events? What kinds of public art or graffiti do you see? How is the neighborhood's history reflected in its buildings or landmarks?
3) Religious presence: What places of worship do you see? How accessible are these places of worship to the community? How might faith communities be involved in the life of this neighborhood?

This week we're focusing on shared life through prayer and participating in prayer walks all week! While you're out walking and praying today, focus on the following:

1) General impressions: What does the atmosphere of the neighborhood feel like? What sounds do you hear? Is it peaceful or chaotic? How do you think it compares to the neighborhood around City Life?
2) Economic conditions: What types of businesses are around? Are the businesses thriving or struggling? Are there signs of economic disparity or wealth? What is the housing like? How well are the homes cared for?
3)Safety and Security: How safe does the neighborhood feel? Are their visible signs of crime or efforts to prevent it?

The Mel Trotter Shower truck saw 13 showers this morning! We are feeling blessed to be able to provide a location for this on Monday mornings all summer long!

We are looking for volunteers to help serve on Monday mornings this summer from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and seeking donations of socks (men’s and women’s all sizes), bags (any type of bag for our guests to carry their belongings in), and combs/brushes.

We are excited to hear the word from Michalla Arbour this weekend. Michalla and her husband Christian live in the City of Grand Rapids and work at Kentwood Community Church. She has been serving in ministry full-time for 6 years now and is an ordained minister under the Wesleyan denomination. Her passion has been intercultural ministry and global missions. She grew up as a missionary's kid in the Middle East for the first decade of her life and is a third-culture kid. In her free time, Michalla loves to run, read, and go camping with her husband and her dog.

This Sunday we welcome Pastor Jerry to the stage to give this week’s message!

Pastor Jerry DeRuiter has an extensive background in Public administration, nonprofit, and The Wesleyan Church. He has worn titles such as commissioner, mayor, Executive Director, and Executive Pastor throughout his career. He has continued to serve in many interim capacities since his official retirement in 2015 and is taking up the role of “Interim Lead Pastor” for City Life Church this summer while Pastor Christy gets her much needed rest and refreshment on her sabbatical.

We are pleased to welcome Pastor Jerry DeRuiter as City Life’s Interim Lead Pastor this summer while Pastor Christy is on a sabbatical! Pastor Christy will return on Sunday, August 18. Meanwhile, Pastor Jerry will be serving in a part-time role here to help keep the ministry going! You will have a chance to hear him share his testimony and the marvelous ways God has worked in his life on Sunday, May 19!

Pastor Jerry has wide-ranging experience as the former Executive Pastor at Kentwood Community Church, former Mayor of Kentwood, former CEO of Arbor Circle, and more. He has a heart for the poor, mental health, and the kingdom of God.

You will love him and his wife, Shirley! Pastor Jerry and Shirley served in this capacity eight years ago when Pastors Christy and Adam were on a sabbatical as well, and they are glad to be back with the City Life family!

This weekend we look forward to hearing the Word from Pastor Kirt, speaking on the Ascension of Jesus!

Kirt Herbert grew up in the Caribbean with parents who shaped in him a desire to help people follow Jesus. He is passionate about empowering young people to be disciple makers in their context. He pastors the EDGE Urban Church, a hip hop church in Grand Rapids, MI that puts heart in their art to disciple youth & young adults. Kirt and his wife, Tisa, live in Grand Rapids with their only daughter.
