Greenville Health Authority awarded Nicholtown Child and Family Collaborative with a 2023 Healthy Greenville, Too Grant of $5,000.

This grant will allow NCFC to partner with a counseling service to help Greenville County families receive comprehensive mental health support. This project will offset the cost of counseling and therapy services not covered by insurance and Medicaid.

GHA is proud to support NCFC’s mission to improve child, parent, and community outcomes through education, employment, and health by creating a sustainable infrastructure for success.

Greenville Health Authority Board of Trustees Tracy Hardaway and Dr. Jeffrey Craddock, along with GHA President Phillip Liston, recently visited the FAVOR Upstate administrative offices and met with CEO Lesley Pregenzer.

GHA awarded FAVOR Upstate with a 2022 Healthy Greenville grant of $1.3 million to increase access to recovery services. FAVOR Upstate provides a compassionate and innovative response to the suffering caused by substance use disorders for over 5,000 individuals in Upstate South Carolina each year. We are proud to support FAVOR Upstate!

Our Healthy Greenville, Too Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that are not traditional health services delivery organizations and provide a valuable charitable purpose that improves the well-being of the people of Greenville. In 2023, GHA awarded a $5,000 Healthy Greenville, Too Grant to Public Education Partners!

This grant supported the conclusion of a three-year, district-wide pilot training program to prepare 100 educators and administrators to implement Conscious Discipline (CD) in schools across Greenville County. CD is an adult-first model program designed to help teachers and children build relationships that contribute to a decline in behavioral issues in the classroom and improve the mental well-being of both educators and students. Greenville Health Authority awarded a Healthy Greenville, Too Grant in 2022 to Canterbury Counseling Center for $5,500 to create a Children’s Therapeutic Playroom. The playroom helps to address the mental health needs of children and provides an age-appropriate area for therapy. Read more here - https://www.canterburycounseling.org/therapeutic-playroom.

According to the International Journal of Mental Health, over half of all adolescents who develop a mental illness demonstrate symptoms earlier in childhood. GHA is happy to have provided a grant to CCC to provide early intervention services to promote healing and long-term social and emotional well-being for children.

This week we’re highlighting one of our Healthy Greenville, Too Grant recipients. International Ballet Greenville has been awarded a total of $22,142 over three grant cycles for its Adult Accessibility Dance Class. International Ballet partners with Thrive Upstate to provide a weekly dance class to adult individuals with intellectual disabilities. The class integrates body conditioning, musicality, teamwork, discipline, emotional support, community, and camaraderie in a venue outside of the daily centers for special needs.

Healthy Greenville, Too grants are awarded to organizations that are not traditional health services delivery organizations and provide a valuable charitable purpose that improves the well-being of the people of Greenville.

The Greenville Health Authority Grant Committee met this Wednesday and is hard at work for this year’s Healthy Greenville Grant cycle. The committee is reviewing 35 Letters of Interest for the Healthy Greenville Grants and 20 Healthy Greenville, Too Grant applications from local nonprofits that want to improve access and quality of care in Greenville County.

This week’s Grantee Highlight features Greenville County EMS! Greenville Health Authority awarded Greenville County EMS with a one-year, $91,737 Healthy Greenville Grant in 2023. Grant funding will expand mass gathering and special-operations capabilities by procuring an all-terrain ambulance vehicle. It will provide a more efficient and safer means of responding to and transporting ill or injured patients from crowded or wilderness venues to an area where hospital transportation is accessible. GHA is happy to support this project for the health of Greenville County residents!

We are continuing our Grantee Highlight series today with Project Hope Foundation, Inc.! Project Hope received a 2023 Healthy Greenville Grant from the Greenville Health Authority. This was a one-year award of $56,215 for its project to “Increase the Autism Community’s Access to Lifelong Healthy Choices.”

Project Hope Foundation was founded in 1997 by two moms looking for services for their young sons with autism. As the rate of autism has expanded to 1 in 36, Project Hope’s mission has expanded into providing a lifespan of autism services. The autism community has escalated health risks due to social/communication struggles, self-limiting food choices, sedentary lifestyles, and mental health challenges. This project focuses on promoting physical activity to increase fitness and decrease obesity. Thank you, Project Hope, for your work to serve the autism community in Greenville and across the Upstate!

The Greenville Health Authority is proud to have provided Center for Developmental Services with a Healthy Greenville Grant in 2022 to help expand its case management program!

“The Center for Developmental Services (CDS) is expanding their case management program and is now accepting new referrals for the first time in five years. The Greenville Health Authority supports the work of Neighborhood Cancer Connection with a 2023 Healthy Greenville Grant of $316,337 for its mental health counseling program! This week NCC hosted GHA Trustees and Grant Committee members for a tour of their new facility.

“It was a pleasure for Greenville Health Authority to meet with staff and Board members of Neighborhood Cancer Connection. We had an opportunity to tour the new facility on Mills Avenue, which will continue to provide free and integrative services and support to individuals living with cancer. NCC seeks to offer emotional and financial support to our citizens and to equip them for a successful journey in dealing with cancer. We appreciate the support and sense of community they provide and are proud to fund this organization via our Healthy Greenville grants program.” – GHA President Phillip Liston

Grantee Spotlight:
Gateway House, Inc. accepts people living with serious and persistent mental illness, regardless of ability to pay, into its daily Clubhouse Model program. The Clubhouse Model is a community and evidence-based approach to the treatment of serious mental illnesses. Gateway is a community center that serves as a hub for all the opportunities and activities that it offers to its members and is a place of acceptance, belonging, and inclusivity.

The Greenville Health Authority is proud to support Gateway with a 2023 Healthy Greenville Grant award of $250,000. This funding will help with the costs of serving more people who live with mental illness and who have no financial means to pay for rehabilitative services. Increasing daily membership at Gateway will help break down barriers to mental health including cost of care, long waiting lists, and lack of behavioral health resources. This week the Greenville Health Authority announces two new members to our Board of Trustees! Next meet Dr. Jeffrey C. Craddock, a practicing psychiatrist in Greenville. He is the Medical Director of the Acute Autism Assessment and Stabilization Unit at SpringBrook Hospital in Travelers Rest and the Medical Director and Program Sponsor of Recovery Concepts of the Upstate. Dr. Craddock is a strong advocate for patients with addiction and mental health issues and we appreciate the knowledge and expertise he brings to our board. Last week we toured the newly renovated YMCA Judson Community Center. The Greenville Health Authority is happy to have supported this project for YMCA of Greenville with a 2022 Healthy Greenville Grant of $189,000! The YMCA Judson Community Center has been a mainstay for families in Judson and the surrounding areas for more than two decades.

Attention Potential 2024 Healthy Greenville Grant Applicants!

The Greenville Health Authority has posted the 2024 Healthy Greenville Request for Proposals (RFP) on its website. Mark your calendar, the Letter of Intent (LOI) process will open on January 8.

The Greenville Health Authority's grantmaking is driven by a Request for Proposal (RFP) that tracks to the grantmaking initiative’s desired outcomes. Interested organizations are invited to submit letters of intent (LOI) outlining their ideas. Following evaluation of the letters of intent, select organizations will be invited to submit a full application for funding. Funding is awarded to those applicants who best meet the criteria outlined in the RFP, who demonstrate a track record of success, and who can articulate how their program/project will move Greenville County toward our bold vision of being the healthiest county in America.

Since opening in 1989, the Triune Mercy Center has evolved from a provider of short-term emergency services (primarily food and clothing) to an organization that embraces the hope of long-term recovery and access to support that lets people succeed. Triune’s overall strategy is to meet people where they are and act to help them. Today, their staff of caseworkers, social workers, and addiction specialists coordinate healthcare, counseling, and access to basic resources (food, shelter) for the homeless and those in need. The Greenville Health Authority is proud to support their work through a 2023 Healthy Greenville Grant of $187,070 to fund the expansion of their social work services. With this grant Triune will hire 3 additional social workers over the next two years to directly address the needs of the homeless, addicted, and disadvantaged in Greenville County. Everyone facing cancer in Greenville – no matter their social or economic circumstances – can walk into the Neighborhood Cancer Connection and receive essential support throughout their cancer journey. They provide four key services for a comprehensive approach to helping cancer patients: Counseling, Financial, Nutrition & Disposables, and Equipment and Accessories. The Greenville Health Authority supports their work through a 2023 Healthy Greenville Grant of $316,337 for their mental health counseling program to create opportunity for people at all stages of their cancer journey to reduce stress levels, combat anxiety and depression, build social connections, and eliminate isolation. Using a combination of traditional, expressive, and alternative therapeutic approaches (arts, music, movement, meditation, etc.), the newly created counseling program will increase access to services that meet the emotional and mental needs of Greenville’s vulnerable population. The Meyer Center for Special Children was founded by Dr. Leslie Meyer in 1954 with a simple vision: in the right environment, any child can learn. Today the organization specializes in early education and intensive therapy services to empower children with disabilities to reach their maximum potential. The Greenville Health Authority supports their work through a 2023 Healthy Greenville Grant of $643,341 to aid their efforts to increase access to school-based rehabilitative services. The Meyer Center for Special Children's unique service model provides school-based rehabilitative services that include therapy, education, and nursing services for children with disabilities during the school day.
