What is he doing you might ask?! It probably just looks like him and a friend are playing a game with lots of numbered sticky notes…but it is SO much more than that.
This simple vestibular exercise involves quick head movements from side to side to find the answer to the math problem that his friend calls out. By doing this, we are:
1️⃣ firing the vestibular nerve within each ear with each head rotation
2️⃣ focusing on quick reaction time
3️⃣ eye scanning from number to number that strengthens the eye muscles and allows you to stay on targets despite more chaotic backgrounds (lots of different colored sticky notes placed on wall with words)
4️⃣ adding a cognitive component that challenges the vestibular system and brain even more
5️⃣ practicing repetitive quick pivots required for hockey goalies to perform throughout the game
This simple and fun exercise is clearly doing SO much more than it appears! And it’s fun!
It is great for improving eye tracking needed to follow the puck on the ice, think and react quickly in more chaotic backgrounds (think about the flashing lights and music often played at hockey games), and strengthen the vestibular system within the inner ear to prevent dizziness with quick head movements needed during game play.
Are you an athlete that wants to step up your game with exercises like these? Call us to get you or your whole team scheduled for a group training session!

Read one of our patient reviews about how working with Rebalance Physical Therapy helped her reach her goals! FULL review below!
"If only I could give more than 5 stars! I started working with Kat Orr for motion sickness - 10 minutes in a car if I wasn't driving got me feeling very nauseous. I was also experiencing long term post concussion symptoms from about a year and a half prior. The initial phone call was thorough to start. Dr. Kat is very knowledgeable! After 6 sessions, my symptoms are virtually GONE! I sat in the backseat of an hour long car ride after about 4 sessions and was fine. Before we started, reading a book in bed with the ceiling fan on was nauseating; I had to turn the fan off. Sitting in the front seat of someone's car made me very unwell-nauseous and dizzy. This week I was able to read with the ceiling fan on! These things we may not realize are not healthy - something is off. Rebalancing the inner ear is exactly what I needed and I've made HUGE improvements these past few months! She also did dry needling for my neck and got those knots cleared out! HIGHLY recommend!"

Do you get frequent headaches?
Do you feel like you have more difficulty concentrating and are more “foggy” than normal?
Maybe you feel more anxious and easily fatigued with your normal daily tasks than in the past?
You may be suffering from residual symptoms from a past concussion. 🤕
It doesn’t matter if it was 3 months ago or even a year ago, post-concussive syndrome or PCS is something that occurs 90 days or more past the initial injury.
Because symptoms have lasted past 90 days, you start to involve more realms such as cognitive and behavioral symptoms outside of just physical symptoms.
With longer lasting symptoms and more realms involved, you can see why it takes more intentional action and a longer recovery time to get back to your normal.
The best way to avoid PCS is to take action by starting vestibular PT right away if you have suffered a concussion and continue to notice any symptoms past 7-10 days.
If you have reached 90 days and are still having symptoms, make sure you are still seeking vestibular rehabilitation to help. Yes, it may take longer to recover but vestibular PT is crucial in helping you reach a higher quality of life post-concussion.
***Bottom line: DON’T wait it out if you are experiencing symptoms after a concussion! More time will only lead to more residual symptoms, secondary complications, and an unnecessarily frustrating path to recovery.***
Be sure to save and send to someone you know who has suffered a concussion in the past!

Let’s talk about CONCUSSIONS! 🧠
We all hear about them and know they are bad…but do you actually understand the severity of a concussion and how much it impacts?
Are we REALLY doing enough to manage concussions? 🤔
We personally think not.
Learn more about concussions, their causes and symptoms, and what existing gaps exist that we know vestibular rehabilitation can help fill to help reduce symptom intensity and duration post-concussion.

A common misconception is that you need to be in your 60-80’s to have problems with your inner ear or balance. And that is simply not true!
Here are just 3 groups of people who could benefit from vestibular physical therapy:
🤙🏻Athletes - if your sport includes eye tracking, spinning, or any rotational movement, you NEED vestibular PT
🤙🏻Anyone after a car accident - car accidents cause whiplash, which causes the muscles in the neck to be Injured and causes the systems of the inner ear to potentially be off. You need vestibular PT
🤙🏻Frequent travelers - this could be frequent flyers, commuters, bus/truck drivers, mountain vacationers, flight attendants and pilots. These frequent pressure and elevation changes can definitely affect the inner ear!
If you fit in any of these categories or you experience difficulty tracking, feeling off, or have neck pain, find your local vestibular therapist today! 💪🏻
Did you know vertigo is NOT a diagnosis?
It is a SYMPTOM of a vestibular dysfunction. This could be associated with BPPV (positional vertigo), Ménière’s disease, a vestibular migraine, or several other true vestibular diagnoses.
So if you have had or are experiencing vertigo, saying you have “vertigo” or any dizziness isn’t saying much. It’s necessary to dig a little deeper to figure out what is causing that vertigo!
If you are ready to get to the root of the problem, message us today! We are happy to help! 😊
Happy Thanksgiving everybody! 🦃❤️
