April is Occupational Therapy month! 💚
Fun fact about OT:
Occupational therapy has its roots in mental health and basket weaving
Even before the term “occupational therapy” was coined in 1914, it was a method to provide therapy for mental health patients in the early days. During the first World War, occupational therapy was used to treat injured soldiers through arts and crafts such as basket weaving. As one of the most common activities in occupational therapy clinics in the 1920s, basket weaving was popular due to its low cost and accessible materials. Additionally, it was an activity that OTs could easily adapt to suit the patients’ needs.
Fun fact about the OT department:
The Meyer Center occupational therapy department of only 6 therapists has collectively 123 years of OT experience.
