Dennis Kuenzli will mark five years in recovery in August. He found FAVOR Upstate thanks to a facility outreach that was done during an Intensive Outpatient program he was enrolled in, and started attending meetings shortly thereafter. Although he has had his ups and downs along his recovery journey, Dennis has made many friends and found his family at FAVOR. “FAVOR to me means a support group that I can always rely on in my recovery journey. People that can understand what I have been through, and where I want to go. FAVOR is a movement in the upstate and we are making a difference!”
Dennis enjoys making an impact through his volunteering for FAVOR. He takes a regular shift behind the front desk at the Greenville Center, facilitates All Recovery meetings on Zoom, does facility outreach, and helps with special events. Dennis said: “Volunteering gives me one more tool in my toolbox. It provides accountability and responsibility, helps me put faces with names, and keeps me connected. Doing facility outreach reminds me of where I was, and I enjoy carrying a message of hope like it was carried to me.” When asked why someone should consider volunteering Dennis said, “it will strengthen your recovery, guaranteed!”
FAVOR Upstate Volunteer Coordinator Roy Dessloch is proud of Dennis’ progress and appreciative of his spirit of service. “Dennis is willing to wear a lot of different hats for us, and he dons them all well. We are very lucky to have such a passionate volunteer who is so dedicated to our mission. Dennis is awesome!” We are fortunate that Dennis is a part of the FAVOR family. Thank you, Dennis, for all you do!

This month’s topic is Behavior Modification as an Approach to Recovery presented by Dr. Charles Crite.
To address the symptoms of criminal and addictive behavior, we must change our thinking. Our thinking affects our emotions and feelings, which in term generate attitudes that dictate our behavior. Behavioral modification attempts to address criminal and addictive thinking errors, distortions, patterns, and tactics that exacerbate one's addiction. Change your thinking; change your behavior.
Dr. Crite is a certified advance alcohol and drug counselor with the state of South Carolina and a certified substance abuse professional (SAP). Also, he is nationally certified by the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) and a member of the National Association for Drug Court Professionals (NADCP). In 2015, he joined 13th Judicial Circuit Drug Court in Greenville, SC as an A&D Counselor II and in 2016, he accepted the position of Adult Drug Court Coordinator for the 7th Judicial Circuit Drug Court in Spartanburg, SC where he coordinates and links all entities together to ensure high-quality service delivery and strict adherence to Adult Drug Court Best Practice Standards.
