What happens during an eye exam?

At the beginning of your eye exam, your ophthalmic technician will ask about your medical and past eye history. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, be sure to bring them with you to determine if any updates are needed. During the exam, we will perform several tests including a vision screening, eye pressure check and a refraction. Once your eyes have been dilated, your doctor will take a look at your eyes to be sure that everything looks healthy and that no further testing is needed.

Remember it is important to get your eyes checked once per year. Call to schedule an appointment with a provider today at 864-458-3900.

February is Age Related Macular Degeneration and Low Vision Awareness Month. The most common cause of low vision is macular degeneration. There is no way to repair the macula and reverse age-related macular generation, so managing AMD is geared towards slowing the progression of the disease. Scientists are researching new ways to treat macular degeneration. There are currently several clinical trials underway that are exploring new medications, stem cell and gene therapy, as well as other approaches.
