Washington County's Returning Citizens
Citizens meeting returning citizens every Saturday morning at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 🧡🧡🧡
🌟 Great news for returning citizens! 🌟
There's a new law, HB 161/SB 277, that's all about making it easier for returning citizens to get back on their feet after incarceration. Starting October 1, 2024, if you've been released from a correctional facility within the last 60 days, you could be eligible to get your identification card - for FREE! 🎉
Here’s why this is important for a reentry plan:
🆔 Get Your ID: Having a valid ID is important for finding a job, opening a bank account, and accessing services. This law helps remove the financial barrier that can make it tough to get your ID right away.
📜 Easy Application Process: If you can show the right paperwork, like proof of your release, you won't have to pay the fee when you apply for your ID at the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA).
🤝 Support for Your Journey: This law supports your reintegration by helping you to quickly establish your identity in the community so that you can access opportunities and resources more easily.
📅 Mark the Date: Remember, this new rule kicks in on October 1, 2024, so be sure to prepare your documents ahead of time.
Feel free to share this post so we can spread the word! Together, let’s empower each other on the path to a fresh start! 💪✨
Gatekeepers is dedicated to the ongoing development of its Next Steps Program, a targeted initiative designed to empower returned citizens who have successfully transitioned beyond their basic needs. The program centers around Personal Development and goal setting, drawing inspiration from the foundational principles of the Business of Living Program.
Focusing on key aspects of life – Occupational, Educational, Personal, and Spiritual – the Next Steps Program equips participants with the tools and support needed to advance in these crucial areas. By fostering growth and skill development across these domains, participants are encouraged to progress from their status as returning citizens to actively contributing members of society.
Currently meeting biweekly, the program aims to expand its reach by offering multiple classes each week, amplifying its impact within the reentry community.
Gatekeepers is committed to providing a supportive and empowering environment where individuals can thrive and realize their full potential as they navigate their journey towards successful reintegration.

Washington County is home to many wonderful resources. At times, it can be confusing to determine what organizations serve who and how they do so.
Gatekeepers mission is to motivate, encourage and empower returning citizens. We do so by meeting them behind, at and outside of the "gate".
