Around the world of Clubhouse!
Retired Fountain House staffer Donny Lee and Jerusalem Clubhouse member Serge Blasberg had the profound pleasure of visiting three Israeli Clubhouses: Alon Clubhouse (Tiberius), Clubhouse Afula (Afula), and Jerusalem Clubhouse (Jerusalem).
Donny and Serge shared meals and conversations and jumped into the Work-ordered Day with Clubhouse members and staff.

Barriers to Black Mental Health Support Today.

According to the Columbia University Department of Psychiatry, the US adult Black community is 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems, yet only one in three who need help actually receive it. To give a comparison: About 25% of Black individuals seek mental health care compared to 40% of white individuals. This is often due to systemic inequities and stigma.

“Lately we had the grand opening of Clubhouse Lund's newly started swap shop! What you don't want, someone else may be happy about. And the planet will be happy too.” 🤗

There are currently 14 Clubhouses in Sweden and Lund is one of them. On their webpage they present themselves like this: “We are a working community where we devote ourselves to all that is healthy in each other. We help each other in the kitchen, manage the cafe, record music, make a newspaper, podcast radio, fix the garden, study, go on nice trips, train together and much, much more.” Sounds familiar? 😊

• For Mental Health Month this year, Mental Health America is encouraging individuals to look around and look within. From
your neighborhood to genetics, many factors come into play when it comes to mental health conditions. We encourage
everyone to consider how the world around them affects their mental health.
• Mental Health America’s 2023 Mental Health Month toolkit provides free, practical resources, including information about
how an individual’s environment impacts their mental health, suggestions for making changes to improve and maintain
mental well-being, and how to seek help for mental health challenges.
• Your surroundings can impact if, how, and when your needs are met, which in turn affects your mental health. However,
you can take steps to change your space and protect your well-being.
• If you constantly feel worried or sad about where you live, one of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether you
are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition is to take a mental health screening at mhascreening.org.
