More testimony from the US Army Public Hearings in the draft EIS on lease retentions for 6,322 acres of stolen Hawaiian Kingdom lands.

It was an amazing three nights of testimonies that inspired and educated, and reaffirmed the commitment by the community to see 6,322 acres of stolen Hawaiian lands returned to the rightful heirs and allowing the leases to expire. The US Military has poisoned our land and water, destroyed fragile ecosystems, desecrated sacred sites, and is the biggest threat life on O’ahu. We should never forget Red Hill and how 93,000 residents were poisoned by the US Military.
New exhibit highlights the loss of Hawaii’s endemic birds There are many things to talk about when it comes to that, but at Bishop Museum, there is a brand-new exhibit that focuses on manu, or birds.

E Hiki Mai Nā Pua (Welcome the Children) written by CY Bridges was chanted by the Kahuku Community at the beginning of last nights hearing on the Army lease renewals of stolen Hawaiian Kingdom lands. This was done to welcome the spirit of the Kia’i or Protectors who came from other communities in O’ahu to stand with them against the Army lease extensions of Hawaiian lands. The room was packed again with children, adults, and elders and the overwhelming majority of voices were asking the Army to clean up the wai and ‘āina and leave.
HIKI MAI NĀ PUA
Hiki mai e nā pua i ka laʻi ē
Ke piʻi aʻe la i ka mauna kiʻekiʻe
Haʻa mai nā k**a me ka makua
He wehi pūlama aʻo ke kupuna
E kaʻi mai ana, e kaʻi mai ana

Translation
Come forth oh children in the calm
And climb the high mountain
Dance forward with your Makua (Father)
A cherished adornment of the ancestors
Come forward, proceed forward
Follow the voice/word of the Lord
TONIGHT! This is your last chance to provide Oral testimony on the US Army Draft EIS on the retention of stolen Hawaiian Kingdom lands at Makua, Poamoho, and Kahuku. Tonight is Wahiawa’s turn to voice opposition to the USArmy death games they play on our ‘Āina so that they can go out and oppress other indigenous peoples and occupy their land. Wai’anae and Kahuku was a resounding NO to Army lease renewals.

7/9/24 Testimony from Wai’anae resident near the end of the evening at the hearing on the US Army Draft EIS to retain 6,322 acres of stolen Hawaiian lands. The Army pays $1 per lease for the whole 65 years for thousands of acres. Powerful story from Bernadette about ASHES FALLING on her head from the bombing while walking to school. Is this the future we want for our children?

This week there will be three public hearings (all starting at 6pm) regarding the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Army’s proposal to renew their state leases for lands in Kahuku, Poamoho and Mākua for another 65 years.
