The 8th MP BDE will be hosting a blood drive tomorrow at their headquarters building on Schofield.

We are still experiencing a summer blood shortage and need the help from the Schofield Community to donate blood.

In general, donors must:

*Have not donated blood previously within the last eight weeks.

*Weigh at least 116 pounds.

*Have been feeling well for at least three days prior to donating.

*Be well hydrated and have eaten something prior to donating.

*Have picture ID and know when/where you have traveled.

*Be able to list the types of medications currently being taken.

O positive blood is the most common blood type, also the most commonly used and is critical in trauma care and surgeries.

One of the largest blood drives for the Tripler Blood Donor Center is the quarterly Blood Battle Competition held between the TAMC and DDHC Companies. It's a friendly competition to see who can recruit the most donors. The competition is open to all of TAMC and DDHC soldiers, civilians and contractors.

Tripler Army Medical Center Blood Donor Center and MCBH joined together for a series of O blood type blood drives and low-titer O screening.

Low-titer O screening, more commonly referred to as LTOWB, can be transfused to patients of any blood type, making it a valuable tool on saving lives.

Blood donated supports the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP), that provides blood to service members and their families.

After a three day Blood Battle Competition,

in the 2024 Tripler Army Medical Center Blood Battle Competition.

The winner is determined by the company with the most blood donations. It was a close race, but Headquarters Company came out ahead.

The Blood Battle Competition is organized quarterly to ensure a good level of inventory for TAMC.
